Description
1965 Studebaker Commander, completely rebuilt 283-bored .40 over, magnafluxed, decked, Keith Black pistons and rods, stock cam, 550 cfm Edelbrock carb, 305 HO heads, HEI distributor, custom headers and true dual exhaust with turbo mufflers and tail pipe exits in front of rear tires.
Turbo 350 Trans, inspected by local mechanic and all seals replaced. New driveshaft and u-joints. S-10 rearend, new wheel cylinders, brake shoes and springs.
Wheels, multi lug Chevy Rally wheels, front wheels are 15"X7" with brand new Cooper Cobra. The rear wheels are 8" with used Cooper Cobras.
Suspension-4 brand new shocks and rear leaf springs have been arched and repaired with all new bushings. The front control arm bushings are all new.
Steering-All brand new inner and outer tie rods and adjusting sleeve, brand new king pins with all new bearings, new ball joints.
Disc Brakes-New front brake dics conversion with 4x4 S-10 calipers and 1968 Mustang rotors, factory rebuilt S-10 master cylinder. Newer brake lines.
I bought this as a cruiser but with the lack of power and lack of dependability I made a few changes and this car turned into a streetable 70's looking ride. I pulled the original 6 cylinder and trans and replaced with a newly rebuilt 283 and turbo trans. Then the rearend with an S-10. I upgraded the brakes with all new parts and then dics brakes up front. The motor is so fresh that I have less than 50 miles on this project which took me a couple years to do. Also replaced the radiator and I had to make a bracket for it.
I am not a professional and I am not a certified mechanic but I had help from professionals. Shipping- I can help with shipping as I know someone that can deliver but depending on where you are.
The Stude is not perfect as I have not touched the body or interior except for the hood. I painted the hood flat black. The Stude was in an accident at some point but it was a minor dent that was simply filled with body filler. There are a couple other filler spots that look like crap to me but since the car is solid, I decided to just leave it and I intended to dive as is.
When I have the leaf springs arched, I asked for the springs to give me a 1 inch lift because one leaf on boths sides were broken. I got the springs back and holy crap, the rear end was 4-5 inches higher! At first I hated it but the look with more of the 70's hot rod look like I was looking for. My kids like it so I left it.
To make perfect, the car needs interior work like carpet, seat covers, and new sun visors. The headliner is pretty good and dash is good too. Body needs body filler removal and then paint. Driver's door needs adjusted and both doors needs window felts. The trunk is nice so no work there. Engine bay is solid just needs new paint. Under the Stude is solid and greasey like an old car should be.
I probably have missed things but contact me and I will answer all your questions. I got more into this than I am asking, just looking for something else like a Chevy truck if you want to trade.
