The President was the top-of-the-line Studebaker in 1940, one that was immediately recognized as a beautiful and powerful prestigious car with styling by the famed designer Raymond Loewy.
This series 6-C President cruising Sedan features the Delux-Tone trim introduced in April 1940, and it represents the most dashing car that had been available from Studebaker to that point.
A cosmetic restoration has been executed by Dee Howard of San Antonio, Texas, and the President is finished in appealing original colors of Delux-Tone Chocolate and Metallic Beige paint.
Meanwhile, a mechanical restoration was likewise undertaken by Ron Blisset of Norman, Oklahoma.
The subsequent result of this refreshing garnered a Best of Show award at a Studebaker Club Drivers event.
One of 6,444, this is the six-passenger example that rides on a 122-inch wheelbase chassis.
Power is provided by Studebaker’s L-Head 250CI straight-8 engine rated at 110 HP at 3,600 RPM and employs a column-shifted 3-speed overdrive manual transmission.
This Studebaker also has the handy Hill-Holder system that keeps brake application in place until the clutch is at the friction point when on a grade.
The handsome lines are complimented by 16-inch Burnt Orange painted wheels featuring chrome center caps and trim rings, wrapped in Firestone 16x16.5 bias-ply whitewall tires.
Its lattice-bar twin grill and bright side moldings enhance this large=appearing car that has exceptional period contouring plus front and rear bumper guards and twin taillights.
Equally refined in presentation is Delux-Tone tan and brown interior that, when new, was stated to offer “Livingroom type comfort.” Sliding rear-quarter windows provide excellent ventilation.
Further conveniences include a heater, defroster and dash mounted clock. Simulated wood-grain elements include the dash, steering wheel, and shifter knob, while the doors have carpeted lower panels.
It all adds to one fine, finished look for this stately automobile.
