Subaru Impreza type-ra 1995 (GC8-031478)
Here for sale is my Impreza type-ra which I have owned for many years and had lots of fun with. The car has been SORN for 6 months now and I can no longer justify keeping it standing doing nothing and would like it to go to someone that will get some use out of it. The car needs a little bit of work to bring it back into a nice condition and any potential buyers should understand that the car does need some work. I did embark on this project last year but just don’t have the time to complete this due to work commitments.
This car is FAST, very FAST. 0-60 acceleration is hard to keep up with the gear changes and it pulls like crazy. This is the lightweight version of this car as you will know if you are in the market for one and has all the standard features of this model like roof vent, light weight features, extra injector, strut brace, dccd etc etc.
You are welcome to come and look at this car prior to any bids but it is currently SORN with no TAX or Mot and will need to be trailered away. I would be as helpful as possible with this, happy to discuss options for handover. That said, I would get in this car and drive it to the other side of the country with no fear of any mechanical issues if it were legal to drive it on the road.
I have listed some points below which I feel are required to bring it up to scratch and are the things that I would have tackled first. I have also listed the good features of the car below.
Lots of receipts/paperwork included for engine work and previous MOTs etc.
I have started this at £1,500 with no reserve – good luck if you have any questions please message me.
PAYMENT: Payment in full via bank transfer or paypal (preferably bank transfer) 72 hours after end of auction. No payment, no sale, car will be re-listed immediately after this period.
Please refer to the web forumfor some good further reading about this type of vehicle - there is a good community of owners here with helpful advice on buying and features.
Good bits:
Engine/ECU/Drivetrain/Exhaust: The car has a very low mileage (about 3000 miles) API impreza ( installed engine with forged pistons and steel rods. This was installed after a bearing failure on the previous engine, receipt is available for this. A replacement turbo actuator was also installed at this time. Is it controlled by an Apexi ECU (with commander) which will need mapped before any serious performance driving. There is a full stainless fujitsubo exhaust system with wrapped headers and de-cat pipe. Also installed is a Group-N Helix clutch, this was installed some time ago, I am unsure of the expected life of this but there is no signs of slipping currently. A Turbo timer is also installed.
As standard in this vehicle there is a close ratio gearbox with short throw shifter and adjustable electronic centre diff (DCCD).
Bodywork: Bodywork is in good condition throughout as I recently had arches rust spots and paint bubbling repaired by a half body respray. There are no dents or other issues with the shell of the vehicle. This model has a roof vent as standard.
Alarm: Cat-5 Alarm system installed with remote locking on the driver door. No central locking on this model is standard.
Bad bits:
Wheels: The car has a set of 5 spoke speedline alloys which are badly corroded and will need blasted and powder coating. I have included a photo of these. The tyres should be replaced as were left to go flat and may have side wall defects.
Interior: the car was used for track days many years ago and was partially stripped out. The interior is now fully re-installed but is not in tip top condition. This is mainly the dash and centre console where there are issues. The seats and carpeting are in good condition for the age. The dash has been covered in Alcanterra but the glue is coming away in places and this will require a small amount of work to make it look decent again or be stripped off.
Brakes: The car has sat and hardly turned a wheel for many months over the past few years and therefore the brakes will need some attention. If I were doing this I would purchase new disks, strip the callipers down and recondition and install new pads and brake fluid.
Lights/Bodywork: The bodywork on the car has been resprayed and is in good condition throughout. There is a broken front passenger side indicator which will need to be replaced. The boot has no carpet and is in a dirty condition although this could easily be cleaned up with some elbow grease and wouldn’t take long. The driver side lock is non-functional due to an attempted theft many years ago however this door can still be locked with the remote from the alarm system.
