Due to a rapid deterioration of my knee joints, it's time for my limited edition Ignis Sport to go to a new home and for me to move onto an automatic. It is a very versatile small hatchback, comfortable to drive daily and yet surprisingly fast for a 1.5 litre engine when needed, and has been very well looked after by both myself and the original owner.
Stand a metre or so away and it looks to be in very good condition, but it is a used car and has the usual age/wear related marks, including kerbing of the alloy wheels, small parking type dents on the doors/bonnet, touched up stone chips on the bonnet and scrapes on the rear bumper courtesy of the school run parking brigade. The air con does not work as the compressor over pressurised and blew a few seals and it was not considered essential to replace. On the current MOT it was noted there was slight play in a ball joint and the rear brake discs are corroding on the inner faces – previously it had been noted that there was a small oil leak (nothing on the floor) from the gearbox, but not this year and occasionally there is a very slight wheel wobble at ~ 65 mph – which all sounds dreadful when you start listing a cars faults, but it really has been an excellent car to drive and own and if not for my injuries I would be keeping the car.
Whoever buys this car will be getting a Free bonus worth hundred of pounds as one of my passions was detailing cars, this is a time consuming process with greater emphasis spent on cleaning parts that are often if not always missed with the intention of bring the car to as far as is possible to showroom condition, but recognising that cars are meant to be used on the road and will get dirty.Whilst regular valeting or washing will keep your car in a good clean condition, detailing is more a rejuvenation and protection of the paint and other surfaces. Detailing of vehicles includes the restoration of the car as much as possible to showroom condition and is far superior to valeting as a lot more care and attention is applied.
On average it would take me at least 2-3 days to fully detail a car.If you are interested, a very brief summary of the stages involved in Detailing a car can be read here: (please cut and paste the following web address)
Quick guide to Detailing face="Verdana">
As summarised above, I used to fully detail all my cars on a regular basis (injuries do not permit fully these days!) and were treated to various boutique type carnauba waxes, including Zymol - Destiny-Atlantique-Vintage (a 22oz tub of this will cost you £1,852), Swissvax - Best of Show, Dodo, Collinite and many others and the paintwork on the Suzuki is highly reflective, being a metallic "Silky Silver” which is very smooth to the touch as the name says, the metallic flakes can be seen to literally pop out of the paintwork in the sunlight. I will before the car sells give it another 2 coats of wax probably from the Collinite range as we are approaching the winter and this wax can be known to last for up to 6 months which is a very practical solution for a used car.
I'm only selling the car due to a rapid deterioration of my knee joints, so I will be driving automatics for the future and hence selling my Ignis Sport which I have owned for the last 7 years having purchased the car when it was just over 2 ½ years old (just under 8k on the clock) from the original owner who was only selling due to his divorce.
The Ignis Sport is a limited edition model of approximately 1,500 cars and is the road version of the JWRC rally car, where in 2004 Suzuki with Per-Gunnar Andersson (Swedish rally driver) won the 2004 Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) with the Ignis. A three-car team had already notched up an impressive 1-2-3 finish in the Rally of Turkey, as well as a win in Acropolis and second place in Monte Carlo.
The Sport features a number of modifications, including chunky painted body kit, the tailgate gets a pointy spoiler and the lower half of the car is covered with protruding wheel arches and new bumpers front and rear, lowered (approx 2”) and firmer suspension, close ratio gear box and tuned exhaust (*see below). With bespoke front sports seats specially developed by Recaro for Suzuki (with yellow netting in the headrests), crisp white instrument gauges with black markings back lit by blue LED lighting, carbon-fibre pattern instrument panel trim, a high quality leather Suzuki sport steering wheel and leather trimmed gear lever and housing.
Space for front occupants is ample, and there are some clever design touches such as the cupholder alcoves in the dashboard and storage places to the side of the front seats and underneath the rear seats, white instrument dials back lit with blue LED illumination give a pleasing and carbon-fibre effect panels increase its sporty appeal, in addition the car has a Multi-information display system including average speed etc. The door mirrors are both electric and remotely adjustable, the entertainment system fitted is the Clarion DB538RMP which is both a AM/FM radio plus CD player and can also play MP3 discs.
The drivers seat squab is height adjustable, the supportive Recaro seats are very comfortable and both recline, the seats can move forward for easy entry to the rear and unusually both the split rear seats can individually recline, either for comfort or to increase the boot space, there is several storage sections underneath the rear seas, which split and can be partly folded down, with both seats fold down, the Ignis almost becomes a cavernous mini van with a flat floor which is totally level with the bumper surround and makes for easy loading and the Ignis can swallow a surprising amount given its compact dimensions.
Additions over the standard trim:
A hidden box that slots underneath the boot floor, for additional storage / keeps everything tidy. Locking Wheel nuts. Full set of carpet mats. Suzuki 3 part touch up paint kit. Rechargeable torch in lieu of cigarette lighter (car never smoked in ). *Rear Section Scorpion Stainless Steel Exhaust with “Evo” tailpipe as well as being more efficient than the standard exhaust gives a nice subdued burble at low revs but is not too noisy under load. **Replacement Dotz Alloy wheels fitted with Toyo Proxes CF1 tyres (15" wheel x 6.5J offset 38 Tyres 195/50 /R15 - The original equipment on the car is 15" wheel x 5j offset 45 -Tyres 185 / 55 / 15) This was done after consultation with a wheel alignment specialist to ensure that the correct offset / overall rolling circumference / handling characteristics were achieved, the current tyres as well as giving a better handling experience are more popular and can be economically purchased. 4 Brand New original equipment Suzuki White Enkei Alloy Wheels these were replaced under warranty, and stored outside underneath an open porch, so may have some weather marks, although the original tyres are still on the alloys, they will need replacing. I have included a photo in the gallery showing how the original wheels look, including some other optional extras that can be said to enhance the cars sporty looks. 1 Brand New Brink 3516 detachable towbar with fitting instructions. Brink was acquired by Thule in 2006, who recently said their Group’s towbar division will become a stand-alone entity under the name Brink Group. I intended to tow a small camping trailer, but injuries put paid to this plan and the towbar was never fitted. The towbars for this car are becoming quite rare and sought after as most manufacturers no longer supply kits for the car.
