Description

2000 Toyota Celica GT-S manual with 98000 chassis miles/58,000 engine miles up for sale. This car is in good to very good condition, although it has a rebuilt title. It is currently on its third owner in its 14 year life. The motor was replaced at 85k miles with a 45k motor that came with a 2 year warranty which has since expired; all mechanical parts have worked great since the motor was replaced. I purchased the car in 2006 with ~60k miles on it, and as a car enthusiast I have babied it ever since and done regular preventative maintenance. The car has a few modifications on it that will be explained in detail later. The visual modifications improve the look of the car while the performance modifications are slight, so it can very easily be driven by anyone and works as a great daily driver. Its hatchback configuration results in more cargo volume than nearly all sedans.

Detailed description of the car

Engine/Mechanical: As mentioned before the motor was replaced with a used, probably JDM market motor which now has about 58k miles total on it (documentation available). The engine is still under warranty although that warranty will not transfer. However, it does offer piece of mind to the buyer that there are no hidden defects or issues with the engine. If there were, I would be able to fix them for free as the warranty holder. The motor was not rebuilt, so it’s in factory fresh condition. A new Southbend clutch was installed at the same time so there is still plenty of life left in it. VVTL (lift) is working great and the bolts have been replaced with the recommended ones by Toyota’s technical service bulletin, putting it in a favorable condition compared to many other used Celicas on the market. The transmission doesn’t exhibit any synchro grinding at all, which again is more than most other Celicas can offer. Transmission oil was replaced when the new engine was dropped in. The engine has an Ingen cold air intake and a custom Magnaflow exhaust which has the same noise levels of the stock unit at cruising/normal driving RPMs but gives the car a very throaty noise at higher RPMs. A new battery was installed in June of 2012 so it’s still quite fresh. The engine has only had synthetic oils in it. The car has a rebuilt title however there is no frame damage, I have no knowledge of the incident that led to this title as it happened before I purchased the car and hasn’t yielded any meaningful impact on the cars reliability or performance.
Exterior: The car has a front and rear authentic Kaminari bumper and authentic TopShop sideskirts which are all color matched to the car. It also sports HP Design 18” wheels in a matte gunmetal color. The car is equipped with HIDs and fog lights. The windows are tinted at 35% in the front and 20% in the rear and back; the tint is in great shape with no bubbles. The spoiler isn’t installed on the car but is still in my possession and will be included in the sale to the new owner. The car has a shortened radio antenna that still affords great reception. The front bumper has minor paint chips while the rear bumper has a small gouge in it. The defects cannot be seen from more than a couple of feet away.
Interior: The car is equipped with a sunroof. It has black leather on all seats, although the bottom of the driver seat has a rip at the seams. The rip isn’t expanding and doesn’t affect comfort so the seat hasn’t been replaced. The stock radio is still working well, and includes an aftermarket audio line in system. The spare tire is still in the car. The instrument cluster has a TRD center tachometer conversion (switching the position of the tach and speedo) which resulted in the only real flaw in the interior department: the speedometer function on the instrument cluster no longer works (although the tach does). A used odometer can be purchased for less than 50 dollars if the buyer desires, and is very easy to install (I can perform the install for the buyer at their discretion). This will revert everything back to a stock configuration (and would result in both tach and speedo functions working) but would alter the vehicles original odometer reading to that of the used odometer (hence the reason I have not performed such a repair before the sale).
HVAC: AC compressor was replaced about a year ago and blows strong and cold. However, the heater does not work as the heater core has a small leak. The coolant system bypasses the heater so the engine coolant isn’t affected. I have a heater core assembly that will be included in the sale of the vehicle and can be installed by the buyer to repair this functionality, so you would only have to pay for labor.

This is an excellent car for a new driver, especially one who is interested in cars and would like to get to know how they work. The internet (specifically newcelica.org) has great resources and DIY instructions on the car, and parts are available for it at very low prices. A few minor cosmetic fix ups that can be performed by a novice will result in a great looking and reliable car that is also fun to drive.
