Description
Up for sale is a nice 1976 Toyota Land
Cruiser FJ40. It has the original 2F
engine, 4 speed transmission, factory front disk brakes and ambulance
doors. Its not perfect, but I spent a
lot of time and money getting it where it is and am expecting to take a considerable
loss on it to move on to something else.
The truck starts, runs, drives and starts as it should. All accessories, lights, etc., work as they should with the exception of the odometer/speedometer and the windshield wipers. The wipers worked but recently stopped. There are no fluid leaks. I used 100,000 miles as mileage for ad. I don't know actual mileage but it seems safe to assume its more than 100,000.
I bought the truck from Atlanta and was told it had been used on a North Georgia farm for years and years. I replaced front fenders and part of the rear fenders with new parts from Cool Cruisers. There wasn’t a lot of rust (just in rear quarters). Floors and frame are solid. All rust was removed and metal was welded back in before it was repainted in its factory Freeborn Red color, inside and out. I replaced the hood, driver door, all emblems, decals, signals, etc. as well. The doors, front fenders, hood, top, etc. were all taken off the truck and painted separately. The paint is not show quality and has a couple of minor scratches, but its very well done, I think. The body was not taken off the frame. All glass is good.
On the inside, I added a dashcap over the factory dash pad since it was damaged. I bought OEM front and rear seats. These were not recovered but are in great condition. I bought replacement door panels from a vendor near Atlanta. They are original reproductions and look great. I bought a factory front mat in really good condition and installed it. I bought new weather stripping for front and rear doors and window felt that was installed after painting. Inside floors and steps have been rhino-lined Freeborn Red. This was for functionality, not to hide anything.
The brakes were redone (including wheel cylinders), the fuel pump and battery replaced and all fluids (engine, transmission, rear end and transfer case) were changed. It has new donut and manifold gaskets. The carburetor was tuned. I bought a set of white spoke wheels and good, used BFG tires. The wheels were sandblasted, primed and painted professionally prior to tire mounting and installation.
There are a few things the truck still needs.
As I said earlier, the wipers and odometer/speedometer do not currently work properly but did work until recently. The transmission whines a little, but it runs and shifts fine. It needs a headliner as I did not replace it. It does not have a rear mat or heater. It needs a license plate holder and the latch cover for the inside driver ambulance door. The engine bay and the underside need cleaning/detailing. I have a factory air cleaner that will go with truck but its not installed. The factory fender tag was lost somewhere along the way, but the VIN is stamped in the frame. The truck is currently registered in GA and will be sold with a tag receipt and bill of sale.
Winning bidder should make $1,000 deposit within 24 hours. Balance due within 3 business days. Please make arrangements to pick up or have shipped within 10 from auction end. I’ll accommodate your shipper within reason.
