Description

Adorable 1979 super beetle for sale, currently located in the East Bay Area, California. It's been in my hands since it was re-done 10 years ago. A professional VW mechanic re-built the engine and re-did the interior in 2008. Light blue paint was also new in 2008. Since then, it has only had a fuel line replaced. Manual transmission convertible--such fun to drive around town!
Perks:
-Engine runs well--all-stock 1600 cc fuel injection
-New (2008) top in good condition
-New (2008) sound system with radio, CD player, and speakers
-Seats and interior clean and in top condition
-No cracks in glass
-Gas gauge, fan, heater, headlights, high beams, windshield wipers, and all four manual windows work
-Maintained regularly by a retired professional VW mechanic
-Work that has been done on the car (including maintenance and CA smog check) is backed up by my folder of records, which will become yours on buying the car.
What you should know:
-Odometer is not accurate and does not work. Car has had 5,000-10,000 miles driving around town since engine was rebuilt in 2008. I do not know the mileage of the body prior to the car's engine overhaul in 2008.
-Requires regular maintenance to adjust engine timing--as would any car this age!
-There are no serious rust issues--the chassis is in solid shape, but there are a few small spots of rust that should ideally be taken care of (see photos).
-It does have a few blemishes in the welding on the passenger side of the front trunk area. I don't know the story. If there was any damage there, it happened before I owned the car, and it has never been a worry for me.
-Noticeable small blemishes are the rust spot on the outside driver door (a common pressure point for these cars) and the chinks in the paint on the inside driver door where the seatbelt has hit it (see photos).
-Currently a daily or several-times-a-week driver. I drove it every day for more than two years between 2009 and 2011. It had more significant garage time between 2011 and 2017. It is now running better than ever--it truly hums along nicely!
