Description

This Volkswagen Beetle Convertible was purchased by the current owner 30 years ago out of Florida and has remained in indoor storage for the past few years. The car underwent a restoration by Charlie Starnes out of Greeneville, Tennessee between 2012-2013, and work completed includes a bare metal repaint in its current blue, a reupholstered interior, new soft top, and various mechanical updates. The car has a 1200cc flat-four that was rebuilt during the updates, and the 4-speed manual transmission has a new clutch installed at the same time. Just under $30k was spent on the restoration, and some receipts from the work are included in the sale. The car is being offered for sale by the selling dealer on behalf of the current owner with a clean Tennessee title showing a 1962 Model year.
A bare metal repaint was done during the cosmetic updates, and the left front and right rear fender was replaced at the same time. Please note the front fender lights were added after some of these pictures were taken. Some minor paint imperfections are noted that should be able to be corrected with a wet sand and buff.
An updated blue soft top has been fitted to the car, and photos detailing the condition of the exterior chrome and trim can be seen in the photo section. The blue steel wheels have polished hubcaps and trim rings installed and are mounted with Cooper Lifeliner GLS tires. The interior is trimmed in cream vinyl with matching door cards and a matching two-spoke steering wheel. The seats were recovered and new carpeting was installed while the car was with Charlie Starnes. The dash is painted to match the exterior and holds just a speedometer and fuel gauge. Just over 97k miles are shown on the odometer, although true mileage is unknown.
Power comes from a 1200cc flat-four that was rebuilt by Charlie Starnes in Greenevile, Tennessee 17 years ago, and the 4-speed manual transmission received a new clutch at the same time. The body VIN plate indicates a production date of June 1961 and the car holds a clean title as a 1962 model year using the body VIN number.
Records from the restoration will be provided in the sale and total just under $30k.
