Beautiful 1966 Split Window VW Camper Bus. Very desirable split window style with many original vintage features including louvered side windows! Bought in 2003 from California and shipped out here to Cape Cod Massachusetts. The Odometer says there are 93328 miles, but I have only put on around 624 driving from the house to the local beach . This is not a Pop-top, but has been built out by Camper of America (see pic) with a folding seat that makes a bed. I've slept on the bed and it is comfortable, but the support bars for the seat needs to be adjusted which is very easy to do. A fridge you can use by putting a block of ice inside . There is damage to the shelf unit in the fridge. A dining table and a smaller table that folds up near the fridge. Plenty of storage in the closets and under the seat. The wood paneling looks original to me. The Body and Structural condition is really Very Very Good, Solid, No Rot. There are small places of surface rust but it is very minor : (under floor mat drivers side, under double doors, some undercarriage). There is also rust underneath on a section that wasn't undercoated, but not bad, no rot.
The Bus is in good driving and running condition but the rear brakes need to be adjusted as they are too close to the drums making it hard to move, but I was able to drive it out of the storage barn to take pics. This is a 6 volt system, I believe it is the original system, which means there is not a lot of power. I would usually go no faster that 40-50, and mostly took back roads where I averaged 35mph tops. The engine runs well but has a hole in the Manifold (see pic) and is noisy and possibly prone to overheating on longer drives. I would sometimes have to let it sit and cool as it wouldn't start. My recommendation is to replace the engine with a 12 volt stronger system. I would also recommend redoing the brakes because even though they work, they are not power assist and take some push. Vehicle was regularly maintained. Regular oil changes, tune ups all that, but has been stored, covered, for two years. I took it out on the road only a little last year.
SOin summary, this is a great project for further restoration, solid body, no damage!
