1967 Volkswagen Bus
Westfalia Camper SO42
Please read entire listing before bidding, thank you! This is registered in a non title state and will come with a bill of sale. Also, do not bid if you cannot pick the bus up in person. Thank you!
This is a highly desirable year and model westy camper! It is the only year 12v split window bus. It has reverse lights, big nut trans, highly functional camper conversion with poptop and all the late model goodies.
This bus is a survivor. It has it's original engine, transaxle and 75% original paint. It runs, drives and stops. : ) The bus is a full westfalia camper and is in well above average condition. This is a tourist delivery VW which means it was picked up in Germany by it's American buyers, driven around Europe on vacation and then shipped back to US! It comes with the original Euro plate.
The bus is overall very solid for an unrestored vehicle of its age. The body is in great shape over all. The underside was undercoated when new and is remarkably solid. Notable rust areas are the outer cargo rocker, the inner bottoms of the cargo doors, the bottoms of the "A" pillars where they meet the floor, a small area of the driver's side outer rocker, a few spots in the bottom of the front apron could be patched and the battery tray. The center of the battery tray was rusty, I cut that out and installed a new tray on top of that. It's solid. Other than surface rust here and there the bus is amazingly clean.
This classic Volkswagen runs and drives well. It has never left me stranded. The bus is fun to drive and one could leave it like it is or do a mechanical restoration if desired. The original engine and transmission both leak a bit of fluid and could be resealed. The transmission stays in all gears and runs great but you will get a chrip of the gears going into 2nd and 3rd at times. The engine runs really well. I installed 3 oversized head studs where three has worked their way loose a couple years ago. This engine is pre case savers and when it gets rebuilt in the future, the rebuilder would install them. When I got the bus over 4 years ago I went throuh the brakes, suspension and other systems to get it running well. It got new soft brake lines, brake cylinders and shoes. I installed new tie rods, shocks, gas tank, etc. The tires have good tread but are a tad dry/old. The bus drives well overall. One other thing I would do at some point is to rebuild the steering box or put in a new center pin as there is a little extra play in the steering wheel. I am trying to be thorough here! The rare model original radio is there and it has a new speaker but the radio will need to be seviced. I have installed a vintage aftermarket under dash radio which works well! This bus has the rare red tip anteanna which is ideal if you want to install safari windows.
It is located in Alabama has a current registration in my name and has an RV tag. Alabama (and several other states) doesn't issue or require titles for vehicles this old. If you live in a non title state for classic cars, a bill of sale is all you need to register. If you live in a title state, you need to make sure that a bill of sale and a copy of registration will allow you to register the vehicle. I am not responsible for this. The bus is for sale to American, buyers only and it will need to be picked up with me in person. I will accept up to 10k through paypal, the buyer will need bring cash for the remaining amount. The bus is sold as is where is.
This is a special VW and I hope it goes on to a new owner who will love it as much as I have.
Thanks for looking!
