Description

Welcome to my extremely nice, low mileage, excellent running, accident free, and rust free Westfalia. Approximately $10,000 spent in the past 3,000 miles to bring a nice original camper to its current premium condition. This is a turn-key, fully reconditioned camper van, ready for camping, daily use, or holding as a collector item.
I worked for VW back in 1985 and sold Westfalias new. You have my assurance, this one starts, runs, drives and even sounds pretty much like they did new. I looked for a very nice water-cooled Westi for my small family for two years before finding this one. We have enjoyed it now for two summers. You will be hard pressed to find a better one.
The past owner had just had the transmission rebuilt at a transmission shop - it has about 3,000 miles on it. Then, I gave it to a certified VW factory technician along my credit card and told him to do whatever was needed. The bill was nearly $4,000 (see details below). He informed me that it had factory rebuilt heads installed at some time. Then I ordered a new tent for it (canvas), had the interior of the pop-top relined, and had new pop-top moulding applied. Then, it went to an RV dealer who specializes in Westi's, and he went through all the systems: propane, fridge, stove, water supply, and sink - all systems are working as they should.
Body: The body panels are very straight and rust free. The paint is very shiny. Bumpers gleam and are rust-free. There are some paint scratches here and there as well as a few minor door dings. The rear bumper has a small ding. The paint appears to be a combination or original and some repaint. Glass is in very good condition with no cracks or major blemishes. All light lenses are in excellent condition with no cracks. The top is in good condition. The sky-vent is new. The chassis, floors, wheel openings, doors bottoms, etc. have no rust issues.
Interior: The upholstery is in excellent condition with no stains, rips, tears or wear marks. The carpets are in very good condition, again with no stains, rips, tears, or wear showing. The removable mat in the rear camper area has a mark about 2" in diameter where something perhaps spilled on it. The hard floor underneath is perfect. All sleeping cushions are original and in excellent condition. Curtains are original and in very good shape - again, no holes, stains or wear marks. We laundered and reinstalled them. There are a few hooks and snaps missing but they all look good and operate well. The cupboards are all very nice - none of the finish is damaged. The front table is missing although the mounting hardware and post are present. Original style table tops are available inexpensively through go-westi. Some of the table and moulding surround trims have shrunk a little over time - still functional but not as new. The original cassette stereo was working but there is now a cassette stuck in the deck and so I had the power disconnected.
Camp gear: The recently serviced fridge is cold and works using 120 or propane although the propane can be finicky to start - as they were new. The recently serviced water supply system works as it should - some hoses were replaced as necessary. The sink pump and faucet was replaced using original vw parts. The recently serviced stove works as it should. The propane system was tested and serviced.
Mechanicals: The heads were rebuilt at some point prior to my owning it. Recently rebuilt transmission. All fluids were removed, inspected, and replaced. All filters replaced. Hoses and belts were replaced as necessary. Seals checked for leaks and replaced as necessary. Engine was tuned. Brakes and suspension all checked over. Exhaust parts were excellent or replaced as necessary. All lights, instruments and controls were checked and repaired as necessary and all function properly. Starter was replaced to be on the safe side. Battery was replaced with proper VW battery. Headlamps were replaced with quartz halogens. Tires have plenty of tread remaining, all matching, and proper size and spec. Even the factory gas heater works properly!
History: The car has been a western Canada car since new - most of its life on Vancouver Island - hence the low miles and lack of sun damage, rust. The odo/speedo read in kilometers (152,000 kms). The VW is located in Victoria, BC, Canada on Vancouver Island, just north of Seattle. You can take a ferry from Victoria to Vancouver, BC or Port Angeles, Washington or Anacortes, Washington. I will not arrange shipping for you. Please check importation details yourself. Being over 25 years old it should be no issue to import into the US but please do your own research.
I'm a fussy VW 'car guy'. I've done everything to this van that a person reasonably would want or need to. It was reconditioned with little regard for cost. Its not perfect but I have done my best to describe the defects, as few and small as they are. If you would like to have the vehicle inspected, this can be arranged locally before the end of the auction only. Please don't ask me questions contained within the description. Please don't bid unless you are prepared to pay for it within the stated timelines. Price is in US dollars. If you are Canadian, you can pay in CDN dollars after currency conversion. Please email me or phone with questions. Phone 250-704-6888.
