Description
I had this item listed last week, and it sold for $6181 US. The buyer unfortunately backed out, and the second chance bidder has committed to another vehicle. I am listing as a buy now price of $6000. I prefer that any one interested call me so that I can answer any questions, discuss shipping arrangements etc. I also have more pictures available by email. I obtained shipping quotes last week for $1850US to California, and $2750 CND to Liverpool UK.
ThisDevon Moonraker was bought new in England in 1972. It was used as acamper to tour England, France and parts of Europe. In1976 the ownerimmigrated to Canada and brought the van here. It remained with theoriginal owner until this year, and was in use up until a few years ago.
Iacquired the van from the owner's daughter. It had been sitting for afew years, but I got it to start up and drive onto the trailer. Sincethen I have changed the oil and some tune up parts. I have driven itaround the block and it rides quite nice.
Iknow that there is a loyal following as well as some fanatics for thesevans, I am not one of them. So I am offering it for sale in as foundcondition.
Itseems quite original. I am sure there has been mechanical work doneover the years, and the owner has done some wiring repairs/improvements,but the interior seems complete and from what I can tell the van isfairly stock.
Thebody is very good. It has a hefty coating of undercoating, that lookslike it has been on since new. I scraped off some undercoat and there isfactory white paint beneath. There is some rust. The drivers floor atthe wheel well is rotted out (probably from spilling his tea over theyears.lol) There are two spots on the floor pans that have a littleperforation, but the metal around that and everywhere else is solid. Theouter body has some surface rust and a few small perforations thatshould be visible in the pictures. I was told that the van was neverused in the winter and was not exposed to road salt.
The fabric on the cushions is worn, and brittle. The top pops up well, there is a crack in one of the clear panels.
Theinterior package is quite interesting. I have attached a link to anoriginal sales brochure. There are two hammocks that pull out when thetop is up, the cook unit is hinged and swings outside so you don't getsmoke inside. There are lots off storage compartments as well as drawersover the engine compartment, under the cushions that slide througheither from the front or rear. The third seat, is reversible and thepassenger can sit facing forward while traveling. The van was equippedwith a sunroof over the front passenger area. It was closed with acustom sheet of aluminum, I have the original sunroof, but the fabric isbad.
Isee this van as a time capsule. It has not been restored, and could beused as it is with just a little freshening. To be perfect the van wouldrequire a full restoration.
Iexpect that there are not many right hand drive camper units like thisin North America. If you want to stand out this will do it. Driving fromthe right is quite interesting and not as difficult I had imagined.
The van is located in Toronto, and there are many international shippers in the area, and I can help with making arrangements.
Iask that potential purchasers contact me by telephone before bidding. Iwould like a 10% deposit within 48 hrs of the completion of theauction. Full payment within one week of the sale, or sooner if takingdelivery right away. Van is advertised for sale locally as well. No PayPal please. Buyer is responsible for shipping.
