Description

My first car was a 1985 VW Cabriolet. This past July my husband purchased this one for me. I was delighted.
The GOOD:
It has a new transmission. Brand new clutch. New paint job. Lots of new interior pieces (we also have new skins for the front seats and door panels that are still in boxes that will come with the car. New carpet. Southern car, so zero rust. Clean body. Brakes and tires are good. Interior is good overall.but see pictures. 5 speed. Runs and drives..BUT
The BAD:
It was sold with a "new engine" that has about 80k miles on it. Turns out once the engine is warm the engine oil pressure is 5 PSI. The car runs and drives great if you keep it above 2,000 RPMs, but obviously the car needs a different "new engine." Needs new window seals. Needs some new interior pieces due to cracks and breaks. Eventually will need a new soft top. Driver's door handle just stopped working ( Achilles of this era VW). Has a 1.5 inch hole in the central exhaust- was quoted $60 to repair it.
I am incredibly sad to be selling, but I do not have the skills or time to find and replace the engine. Overall, this is a solid vehicle with lots of new parts (new timing and serpentine installed with new engine). IF you are that person who can drop and engine, you'd have a great investment. These cars fully restored are selling for over $10,000.
We keep it covered, on a battery tender. We start it and run it regularly. Fuel stabilizer and a full tank of gas to keep things in good working order. It is drivable, but it cannot sit and idle once it is warm, unless you are in neutral and you have the RPMs at 2,000 or higher. You can hear the oil pump start to whine as the oil thins when it is warm.
Please email with questions. Will consider reasonable offers. We are losing our shorts on this one, but maybe it'll work out for you.
