Description
A CHANCE TO OWN A VERY RARE DUAL CAB KOMBI UTE
These things don't come up often, ESPECIALLY ones that are ready to use as daily drivers.
I sold some very precious scooters to buy this ute less than six months ago. I paid Ten thousand dollar for it and have spent $1500 since on improvements.
It is with great disappointment that I must sell it to buy a Kombi camper . With 2 little kids I am obliged to use my 'toy money' to provide something we can all enjoy. At least it sill be another VW, albeit not as cool as the Dual Cab.
The motor is a delight to drive. Like many VW owners I haven't really got much to compare to but it starts immediately every single day and drives flawlessly.
Underneath drops about two drips a day from somewhere.
Compression is 129, 130, 131, 130 and blows no smoke. After 1200 kms it needed around 450 ml oil to get the level the same on the dipstick.
Brakes really well (front discs). I havent looked at the brakes, mainly because they work. Pulls up in a straight line.
Tyres are light truck (legally required for a ute) and are very good and not old.
Electrics work fine. The horn has a separate button as there is a cool aftermarket steering wheel (see pics)
Slightly lowered at the front and rear. NOt drop spindles or adjustable beam. Some kind of more discreet cutting and turning process I guess.
The britax roof has been put in professionally and doesn't leak. It opens and closes easily while driving and is very very cool to drive while open.
There are a coupe of bolt holes (I assume) in the tray that let rain into the space under the rear seat. I have to assume that previous owners have had this thing out of the rain because there is only a little surface rust in the floor under there. This is most likely since I have had it a few months ago as it is a wet Melbourne winter. No harm done if dealt with soonish.
Has had repair in the pillars next to the windscreen. Looks OK but needs looking at in the long term. If this wasn't the case, it would be a $14G car. (and it will probably cost a grand to fix)
The rear seat base is intact and rare as rocking horse Poo. Upholstery is good.
Front seats have new black coverings (done professionally)
Door cards are new (black)
Stereo is pioneer and has all the latest bluetooth bizzo including a mic for handsfree calls.
Windscreen looks good. No obvious scratches chips or hazy bits.
Lock barrel missing in the rear door, but the lock does work . You just cant use a key in the back, you unlock from the inside like any other old car.
New quick shift trigger shifter
Sports steering wheel.
Gearbox - I have no trouble driving it. It never pops out of gear and changing down doesn't crunch. Took a few weeks to get used to, but now it is second nature (ive had autos for many years).
Brand new exhaust professionally fitted to make sure the heater system is clean of CO.
Brand new carb
I m told the engine was "done" and I now believe this as the compression is perfect, no smoke and the cylinder heads had perfect valve adjustment after many km's. I had a pro VW machanic check the valves and he said I was lucky as someone had changed the heads for new ones not too long ago and they flow better and hold their adjustments better than the old ones.
Electronic distributor
Battery is good. Starts first time every day even on cold Melbourne mornings.
Tank Breather hoses have just been replaced which is a bugger of a job on these rigs.
Air filter has been cleaned out and re-oiled, and heat risers have been cleared out of old soot.
The removable side gates show past rust damage at the bottom only and have been patched up. In some parts the patchwork has come away and needs re-doing sooner or later.
NOTE
The car is currently rego-d in VIC, but I have sent off the cancellation as I was planning to put it on club plates. I didn't expect to be selling it this soon, but when you really 'need' something when the funds are limited, nice things have to go.
The ute is sold WITHOUT REGO or RWC
PLEASE COME AND LOOK AT THE CAR BEFORE BIDDING OR OFFERING. It is important you understand that I have described it to the best of my abilities, but the main part of the description is the photos AND personal inspection. Happy to show it off during business hours in Collingwood.
IF YOU BID AND WIN you are contracted to purchase this car. Bidding is not to win the right to inspect and decide.
Winning bidder must pay $200 immediately the sale is complete and the balance before collection. Failure to communicate or pay the 200 withing 24HR will see the car relisted and the transaction cancelled.
