Sadly the time has come for me to sell this car. I purchased it back in October 2009. Up until October 2013 this was my daily driver and as far as I can remember never let me down mechanically. In my ownership this car has covered most of the country from Edinburgh to Newquay and Leeds across to Absersoch and only broke down once when the alternator belt snapped.
Unfortunately the car had a little bump and ended up being off the road and sat on my drive. I’ve since repaired the damage with parts and panels I had waiting to go onto my project golf. I’d finally got around to getting the car back together completely and taken it for an MOT only for it to fail.
I would love to have the time/money to get this car back on the road and have always had it lined up for a full resto once I’d finished my Project but I just can’t see that happening at the moment.
Anyway enough rambling I’m going to try and be brutally honest about the car and where better to start than the MOT failures.Offside rear fog lamp not working – I should have a bulb for this and will take a look at it.Horn not loud enough to be heard/not working – not checked this yet. Definitely worked when I put it back in a few months ago, again I’ll have a look at this.Drivers seat insecure – This was just because the plastic covers on the runners weren’t on. I’ve got both there.Nearside rear sill suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded. – An annoyingly common occurrence I’ve already patched up the drivers side. I’ll try get pics up of this.Near side strut mount in boot excessively corroded – very similar area to previous.Nearside frong wheel bearing – again I havn’t looked at this, Shouldn’t be too bad.Near and Offside rear suspension component fractured – The helper springs on the coilovers have snapped. – sometimes see people selling 2 rears cheap when they’ve bought a full set for a caddyThings not included in the MOT: lower rear panel has seen better days, rust around filler cap. Perished window scraper seals ( I have 2 brand new ones available to go on)
Following that time for some good bits.New front panel + brand new grill.Newly Painted bonnet – not perfect but looks good.Newly painted passenger side wing.2 brand new nankang 165-50-15 tyres on the front – back 2 are a bit older but plenty of tread.Replica Porsche fuchs wheels. Polish up quite nicely.4 4x100 to 5x130 wheel adaptors (front 2 are only a few years old.)Brand new backbox on the exhaust, I think the middle section is only a couple years old and hasn't seen many miles.Brand new Alternator.1.6GTD engine – This thing is much more fun than the original 1.6 diesel. Starts and runs (got spare glow plugs, oil filter and the original 1.6 engine if wanted.)New windscreen fitted a couple years ago after the original cracked.Currently using seats from a mk2 for driver and passenger originals available as well but drivers seat quite tatty.Front mount intercooler (taken from a Vauxhall frontera)New Battery.Opening front quarters.GTI BrakesUsual cliché; I could make more breaking the car and selling parts seperate but don't really want to do that.
