I bought this car as I needed something to get to work in for a few months whilst I looked for a certain BMW. Nearly two years later I still have it and for me that's a record ! I bought it from the original lady owner on 120,000 miles who after 10 years bought a brand new version of the same car. She did most of her miles in her first few years of ownership going up and down the M1, I have put nearly 40,000 miles on it with 95% of that sitting on a motorway also. Because of this the car runs like a dream, pulling very well in all gears and not needing a single top up of oil between 10,000 mile services. Apart from a set of glow plugs all I have spent on this car is brakes and tyres, I have never had a more reliable car. This 1.9 150bhp motor is really amazing and I have seen some of these cover really large mileages.
Up until about 6 months ago it was still completely as it left the showroom, that's what I liked about it when I bought it. Like I said 6 months ago I put a set of shorter springs on it as it sat a little too high for my liking. It makes the ride a little choppier than normal but this was something I put up with as I feel it looks far nicer. I have the original springs that I will leave with the car and can always go back on if it becomes a deal breaker.
The other thing you may notice from the pictures is the 'surfer flowers' on the bumper and door trim inlays. I hold my hand up to this and can only say sorry as I had a dodgy half hour in the summer when I found these in the garage and proceeded to place these on the car. They are only vinyl and with a hair dryer and a good thumbnail will come off in half an hour. Again, I will remove these if its a problem.
The bad points:
Unfortunatly, it is suffering from what a lot of VW's from this era suffer from and that is rusty front wings. The drivers side started to blister so that's why the plaster sticker is on there, these are available on this site for about £30 if you wanted to go down that route. There are a few other marks here and there, but nothing major. One of the pictures shows the worst affected areas but to be honest, I've seen a lot worse on dealers forecourts !
It's due a service and an MOT in December, around this time it's also due a cambelt, so that's why I'm pricing it up fairly cheap as some of these are still fetching good money.
So there you have it, a very honest old reliable, and fast Golf diesel. It's not perfect, but it's not bad. The only reason I'm selling now is not due to redundancy, or company car coming or all the other excuses people use, I just fancy a change.
