Description
For sale is my pride and joy Mk4 Golf 2.8 V6 4Motion in VERY rare red (I have never come across another in red, whether online or in person!), it is also the rarer 3 door version - these don’t come up for sale very often!
She has a 6 speed manual box alongside the chain driven VW 2.8 V6 engine (no timing belts to replace!) which is known for being indestructible - it’ll run for a very, very long time if looked after!
It runs absolutely great - pulls really well through all the gears, and will happily sit and cruise in 6th gear all day. The 4WD system is fantastic. I’ve never had it slip on me, even when accelerating hard out of a junction etc. Drove it in the snow over winter and found myself at the bottom of a very steep hill - the car drove up it like a Land Rover - not a single slip or falter, it really is impressive.
The car is in good condition inside and out for it’s age. Unfortunately there are some marks / scratches here and there, but she’s 15 years old now, so this is somewhat expected.
Previous owner must have been a smoker as there are a couple of burn marks in the interior (not really noticeable unless you’re looking for them), however I am a non-smoker so be assured that the car doesn’t smell etc!
My dad is a mechanic so the car has been properly looked after since I’ve owned it - regular oil / water and the likes.
The car is in full stock condition - no mods (apart from black badges - already on the car when I bought it - and an aftermarket stereo). It has sports bumpers / trims, a spoiler, sports exhaust and stiffer suspension than a standard Golf - all standard factory features on this model.
It comes with loads of extra features - Heated seats, alloy wheels (discs all round, no drums), climate control, auto-dim rear view mirror, heated wing mirrors, dashboard trip computer, aftermarket stereo with 3x aux ports, 6 CD changer, front and rear power outlets, front and rear fog lights, front headlight washers, automatic wipers with adjustable sensitivity, spare wheel (with brand new continental tyre & full tool kit & jack & spares), alarm immobiliser, centre armrest with pocket, fold away drinks holders, all 3 rear headrests. It’s really clean inside and out, and has been kept that way since I got it.
She’s recently had a couple of new tyres and the alternator was replaced soon after I bought it. Pads and discs are all in good condition and still have some decent life left in them.
MOT’d last month, passed with flying colours, just a few advisories and nothing major! - 2 worn tyres (both still legal, can replace upon request), handbrake wasn’t working very well due to something sticking slightly - has now been loosened and handbrake works much better.
There are unfortunately a couple of bad points to note..
The guy I bought it from didn’t have much service history with it, although he gave me all he had. I have everything he gave me and will be sure to pass it along with the car. The jobs undertaken by me have been done privately, so no receipts for tyre changes / alternator etc.
As mentioned, the body work isn’t 100%, there are a fair few marks around the car, although nothing you would notice without looking for them. Some light scratches, stone chips, small areas of lacquer peel. The most notable is the driver’s side wing has begun to rust and has worked it’s way to the surface. It’s not going to drop in bits or anything and a new wing could be picked up for a few quid from a breakers yard if you wanted to replace it. Rear bumper has a fairly deep scratch, presumably from putting something in the boot. Been there since I got it.
The rear view mirror recently formed some sort of a bubble under the glass for some reason (see photos). It happened overnight and I think it may have been due to a cold night & warm morning combination, although I’m not entirely sure. Doesn’t affect vision particularly and the auto-dim still works perfectly. It may be an easy fix or it might require a new mirror, but as I said, it doesn’t affect vision too much and I’ve been absolutely fine with it since it happened - but worth mentioning for completeness of the listing.
The last advisory is that of the near-side (driver side) anti roll linkage, some slight play in ball joint, however still safe to drive, may need replacing before next MOT.
The 5mm Aux cable that is connected to the rear of the stereo system doesn’t work very well and could probably do with replacing. I’ve been using the port on the front of the stereo with a different cable, and there’s also a USB port which you can plug iPods / USB sticks into.
All engine components etc are in good working order and the issues are purely cosmetic.
I have tried to be as thorough and honest as possible for this listing. As I said, the car is my pride and joy and the only reason I am selling is because I am moving away for a while.
I’m very reluctant to sell the car, but it would be wrong to keep her sat on the drive for months!
This is the best car I’ve ever owned, and it’s stupidly fun to drive! You only need to come and see it once and have a go in it and you’ll fall in love with it like I did! She’s covered a few miles, but I can guarantee that if you look after her, she’ll do twice as many more! This is a really rare car - there aren’t many this good looking or that aren’t badly modded! This listing is admittedly a bit wordy, but hopefully that helps to show how passionate I am about the car and the completeness of the listing.
Priced to sell.
