Description
1990 MK2 Volkswagen Jetta in tornado red
I bought this car around 18 months ago as a running mot'd project. The previous owner was a classic car restorer and had bought a fiat of an old guy who had this jetta sitting on his drive. The jetta had been the old guys daily drive and he had owned it for years but had stopped driving. He made a deal purchased the pair and drove it back from oxford to kent with no problems. He put four tyres on it, overhauled the brakes and it went straight through its mot.
This is when i purchased it. I was going to pick it up when the guy phoned and told me the starter motor had gone. We negotiated a deal and he delivered it to me with a second hand starter motor thrown in but not fitted. I set about fitting the starter but unfortunately that one didnt work either so i ended up fitting a recon unit. I drove it around for a few months in standard spec and was suprised how nice it was to drive. The auto box is smooth and its not as slow as you might think, more than enough power to keep up with modern traffic. I had big plans for the car but due to work commitments i didnt really get started and it ended up sitting on my drive for a year.
A few months ago i started working on the car and must say i love how it sits and looks now. It gets lots of attention wherever you go and is really fun to drive, perhaps a little to low but i love it! Only selling to fund other projects and i will be sad to see it go. There are a few bits that still need doing but its 99% complete, drivable as is and mot'd
List of work i have carried out
Completely replaced the interior with a black golf gti carpet, full factory black leather seats (jetta leather is extreamley rare) matching leather door cards with audioscape leather door pods with infinity speakers and tweeters (awsome 90's modification) replaced saggy headlining with black veltrim carpet (painstaking and looks fantastic). All grey trims sprayed black, sticker bombed momo leather wheel, custom skateboard wheel window winders. Kenwood 6x9's fitted into rear shelf and wiring laid throughout car to take an amp and sub. Amp and sub not included neither is there a stereo in place but all is available at an extra cost if wanted.
Outside i spent days cutting back the faded red paint work and polishing it up to a deep glossy finish. With all red vw's of this age i am not sure how long it will stay this way but still looks good 2 months on but with regular polishing it can be maintained. I also added some custom side decals and tried to keep the 90.s theme going here. Various stickers and a panamar hat finish the grandad look. Oh and obviously the ultra rare thule roof rack including the wind deflector. I have had this on several of my rides but i am willing to let it go with this car as it suits it so well!
lowered on jom coilovers, as i said it sits extreamly low but can be raised up if desired. Wheels are rare gotti cups not ats, could do with a referb. They on an even rarer low off set et27 if i remember correctly. Fitted with brand new nankang 195/45/15s,look great with low profile and slight stretch. Fully legal metal pressed plates with genuine german surrounds. Badges have been painted black since photo's. Recently i noticed battery light was staying on so replaced the battery and auxilary belt. At the same time had a new power steering belt and linkage/tensioner cleaned and adjusted which made a world of difference.
Things i planned to do
Finish off the stereo install but as i said all avalible at a reasonable extra cost. There is a slight blow from the exhaust. There is some rust under the rear light on the passanger side which i wanted to get sorted but not really bad.
As with any car especially a 25 year old one there are little dinks and scratches, i strongly recommend viewing the car before biding. I work varied hours so can be around days or evenings, just drop me an email to check. Car is advertised elsewhere and i reserve the right to end early.
£2200 gets the car including the roof rack
£2000 without rack
£1700 without rack or wheels (will be on steels with x4 nearly new tyres)
Collection only and Cash or bank transfer for payment
many thanks for looking
