Description
Stunning 1956 US spec Volkswagen Karmann Cabriolet with Judson Supercharger
Prior to leaving the states after being carefully restored the car won best in show at Bug - O -Rama in California beating over 1000 other VWs.
I imported this car from California in 2013 and have enjoyed it immensely. The car has just won the best pre 57 class at the Sydney VW Nationals and draws a crowd wherever she goes.
Engine : mostly stock, everything rebuilt, new valves ect, mods to oiling system, offenhauser beehive oil cooler and filter, abrath stainless muffler by Mr Wob in Germany $600, original aluminium valve covers, Judson supercharger, stiffer fuel pump springs, bigger carb jetting (all supplied from Judson kit), straight cut cam gears, Mr Okrassa cam, all balanced
Steering wheel, flat 4 banjo black. the car was bought with a petri wheel on it however it was damaged and had to be replaced upon arrivaloriginal bambus $800, e-brake cover $300, beauty rings $750, Huls $1k, tacho (not connected) $1500reputedly only a handful known to exist in the world Original period correct hazet spare wheel tool kit $2000
interior : is all OG, restitched at lenny copps (west coast classics), new German weave wool carpet, all chrome window trims original to the car, bias ply tyres, restored 56 thin slot generator (very rare $450)
there are no aftermarket bolts or nuts its all oval era kamax/rasche. even the nails to hold the body to the pan rubbers are there. no glues used as in most cases. very rare steering wheel lock with key and push button. Big M radio (mot connected)
Car was sold new from Competition motors, Hollywood, California, later econo motors (empi). the same place James Dean bought his Porsche in 1955 and was killed in it a month later. The car has never had rust or been hit. all metal is original to the car. only the support rails have been replaces and passenger side floor halves due to battery corrosion.
As you can see from the pictures and information above this car presents very well and is full of rare VW original items.. it is not perfect, there are some minor paint blemishes, the swan neck (originals) mirror arms are pitting, interior is as mentioned re stitched original and so looks used. the car is not over restored and in my opinion retains some of its history.
the front beam is narrowed and adjusted as high as it goes. there is room for further adjustment however I feel the beam will need to come out and played with to give you more height should you want it. Rear wheel covers or spats are OG and look beautiful on the car..
Car drives beautifully but remember its a 1956 36hp engine and despite it being supercharged its not a rocket ship! I believe the car is listed realistically and with so few of the oval era cabriolets in Australia and prices rising this is a rare car. especially once you look at all the extras!
Im not desperate so please no silly offers. I can assist with transport however you will have to do the arranging.
cheers.
