Description
Beautiful 1966 Type-34 Razor Edge Karmann Ghia. Very Rare,
Unrestored, Unmolested, Matching Numbers, Original and Complete Car, with Great
Documentation.
Finished in Factory Ruby Red, over the original off-white interior. These Type-34 Ghia’s are very collectible cars, and this one is a fine example to add to anyone’s collection.
Exceptionally rare in the U.S., because the Type 34 Karmann Ghia Coupe was never officially exported here, and a small number were brought over by individuals. It’s estimated that of the remaining 1500 to 2000 Type 34s, about 400 of them are here in the U.S. This Razor was exported from Germany to Canada where it spent much of its life before coming to the USA.
The Type 34 was the most expensive and luxurious car made by VW at its time, costing almost twice the price of the Beetle. This particular example has 92,600 original miles on it, and has had three owners in its lifetime. The car has its original matching numbers engine, trans, interior etc.
The bodywork on this car looks good for the age, with only a few defects, and inside the car has its original interior that is complete. Being over 51 years old has its wear & tear & looking tired in places, but still very cool to have the OG interior, and it suits the overall condition of the car well. Personally, I would never replace the original interior, rather just have it reconditioned and cleaned up in areas. You can enjoy this car as-is, as I do, or restore as you please.
As mentioned the car is complete inside and out, and has been well maintained. As far as I can tell the chassis and underneath is solid and in great shape. It drives down the road fine, and everything seems to be in good working order. Only driven in good weather and always stored in a garage. Accident free. Solid, honest car with no visible signs of serious corrosion. There is one small area under the battery that has been patched in the past that I can see, and the rockers look to have been worked on at some point. One outside repaint in its factory color many years ago, but the interior and inside trunk/engine area is OG paint. Few signs of the paint fading or cracking in areas. Chrome is good with the only serious defect I can see is a bump in the rear bumper. All VIN tags/plates are present also.
All glass is good and original. Vent windows work fine. Door glass cranks up and down fine. Suspension and components are tight with no issues. All electrical seems good, wipers work fine, nice headlights, all lights work etc. Radio is original but not hooked up. Ignition has been relocated to under the dash. Column ignition is still present.
If you have any questions, or would like to come and see the car in person please contact me to arrange a viewing. Happy for any inspection, and encourage you to see the car. I want the new owner to be happy with the purchase, and would like to see her go to a good home.
I welcome International buyers. I have bought and sold many vehicles to and from Europe and internationally so that is a not a problem. I prefer the buyer to make all arrangements for any international purchases and shipments, however I am happy to help where I can. Car is located in Hudsonville MI 49426.
Those who know these cars or the rarity of the Type-34 realize their value. Especially one with great history/documentation and is as complete and original as this example.
Feel free to contact me regarding a buy-it-now price, I do reserve the right to end the auction early if sold prior to auctions end, or if I decide to keep the car.
Please contact me if you need more details.
