Description
We have decided to sell out pride and joy due to recently starting a family and wanting to buy a house.
I purchased the Kombi around 3 years ago and it became my daily drive for the first 2. Due to changing jobs and working over an hour away from home it became an occasional weekend runner and now the baby has come along it rarely leaves the garage.
So the background from what I know - A Kombi enthusiast in SA who restores kombi's owned this prior as his daily drive but sold it to me to restore a splitty. It has a 1.6l engine that is mechanically sound and many people including the VW mechanic have made comment on how strong the motor pulls.
The body looks very straight apart from the drivers side door that has a smallish dent that was like that when i purchased it and rust is very minimal. (see photos).
Since I have owned it in the first couple of months a few things failed - The electronics shorted so the VW mechanics put all new wiring throughout.
The steering wheel had about 5cm of loose play which was not even that bad from others i have driven - but had new bushes installed and tightened up, steers a treat now.
Other things done:
New Clutch
Temperature Gauge
Handbrake Cable
New 40amp Starter Relay
New gear stick coupling & re-alignment
New CV Joint and Boots
New brake caliper and lines
Alpine CDE-147BT Head unit w/ Hands Free Bluetooth.
Alpine PDX-4.150 Amplifier
2x Alpine SPR-60C 2-way speakers + Tweeters
2x Alpine SPR-60 2-way speakers
The bus is highly reliable - I have used it in my own wedding and let friends use it for theirs also, It has done the drive from Adelaide to Roxby Downs a few times and goes up to Renmark a couple of times a year.
The paint is very good it does have a few scratches and imperfections in places but overall is pretty tidy.
Some things that may need to be looked at in the future:
The heater cables need replacing - so the heater doesn't work at the moment but I have a quote of $300 fitted for that.
I would have liked to have the interior roof lining redone - Its not that bad but has a couple of tears in it.
The drivers side and passenger side window rubber could use replacing, but it doesn't leak so not urgent.
It leaks a little bit of oil but very minor - in a year it still was over half full.
It is a honest bus - It drives well and definitely turns heads. I have thrown quite a bit of cash to get it to a reliable and nice kombi to drive. Hopefully the next person can enjoy this gem as much as we have.
GHR Motors the VW specialised mechanics have conducted all the works and regularly serviced (every 5000ks)
Serious buyers only please - I am not in a rush to sell so I wont consider super low offers.
Local Pickup Only.
Cheers,
Lee
