2006 Volkswagen Passat, 4 door, silver/gray - Engine has locked up

2006 Volkswagen Silver/Gray Passat. Friday we took to the shop due to it locking-up on my daughter. Shop feels the engine is 'shot'. This would be a great car for spare parts or put new engine. We just had the alignment done, wheel arms replaced along with putting two new tires on the back.
