FOR SOME REASON THE AUCTION FORM DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE PROPER VIN NUMBER ON THIS VEHICLE SO I HAD TO BORROW ONE FROM ANOTHER VW THAT IS ON EBAY JUST TO GET IT LISTED - SO THE VIN NUMBER WV2ZB0253KH055820 SHOWN IN EBAY'S BASE INFO IS NOT CORRECT. THE CORRECT VIN NUMBER IS WV2ZZZ24ZKG050913 AND IS LISTED BELOW IN THE DESCRIPTION. Not a big deal but I spent 3 hours trying to get through ebay's lack of knowledge. <p>
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY: After selling some of the highest quality and hardest to find car parts and cars on ebay for over 26 years I have retired and am selling off the last - and the best of our collection. Started collecting over 50 years ago and the main objective was to buy the best one owner, matching numbers, rust free cars for pleasure and investment. This TriStar Syncro, along with others in our collection, is being sold due to the owners age/health. A no reserve auction. I very much dislike selling this truck. It was shipped from Germany to California where I purchased it 11 years ago and it has become one of the most coveted vehicle in our collection. It is in very fine original condition. Original factory paint, original factory upholstery as shown and deserves to go to a collector or museum. Have all paperwork from Germany to California. Has every original factory sticker and ID plates as shown. It is a genuine authentic factory 1989 Volkswagen Tri Star 4WD Doka dual cab Syncro 4 door Pickup Truck. This was a factory TriStar from Steyr Daimler Puch in Graz. (with the "Puch" logo badges). Only a few hundred of this model were made. It obviously has had great care from new. Given it's overall condition it looks like it only has 10,000 miles on it. It will be sold on or off auction. A new engine in top notch strong running condition. The new engine was installed in 2010 in Santa Barbara California at a cost of $5303.88 and has only 8873 miles on it now. It is an abnormally STRONG engine and is in like new condition. Smooth, quiet, tight, very powerful. New oil, filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires. Passed all California Emissions.
TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH/DIFFERENTIAL:
The gearbox is the factory original 5 speed - 4 plus G. 4:86-1 Locking differential. Works perfectly in all gears. No noises, no glitches. All smooth and quiet. Clutch works perfectly and smoothly. New clutch, flywheel, transaxle seal installed 8873 miles ago when the new engine was installed. Gearbox code AAN. Driveshaft/driveline was serviced and balanced at that time - sticker is still on the drive tube.
FUEL SYSTEM:
Original Fuel injection working perfectly. New fuel pump. Starts and runs perfectly.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
Excellent original engine compartment. New engine with only 8873 miles. New exhaust. New power steering hoses. Not repainted. There is no rust.
BRAKES/SUSPENSION/WHEELS/TIRES:
New steel and rubber brake lines. Suspension is all original and intact. Five Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires - P225/70R16. Tires are getting old but still serviceable. Five rare Italian Italia wide rimeAT 16" Aluminum alloy wheels. Truck will need to be driven to reseat the brake pads - it has not been driven in the last 7 years and was kept in dry climate controlled storage.
INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:
All factory original interior is in the best condition as shown. Hate to use words "like new" but in this case there is no better way to describe the original upholstery. The seats aren't even dirty - The drivers side bolsters aren't even dirty with no evidence of even having any use at all. All seats look like brand new and they have not been replaced. Original factory carpeting, headliner, seats all look like they have never been used. All panels are the factory originals. The floors are like brand new. NO RUST. NO WEAR. Original seat belts.
EXTERIOR TRIM:
All exterior trim is in excellent condition as shown.
DASH AREA:
Excellent dash, gauges, etc - has a few small drilled holes where some things must have been attached - no idea what.
PAINT:
This is the original factory Tornado red enamel paint in excellent condition as shown. Never repainted. Some touch up spots here and there.
TREASURE CHEST COMPARTMENT:
Like brand new. Looks like it was never used. No rust anywhere. Factory paint even under the carpet is bright, shiny and like new. Both chest doors are like new - solid, straight and rust free.
UNDERCARRIAGE/CHASSIS:
Very good throughout as shown. Straight, undamaged and all original. Not as pretty as the top of the truck - but it is the business area that gets the dirt.
EXHAUST:
New VW exhaust system. No issues.
COOLING SYSTEM:
Original system works well. Runs cool. No issues.
GLASS:
Windows/windshield are all originals and in excellent undamaged unscratched condition. They roll up and down/slide solidly and easily. No issues.
ELECTRICAL:
New XS Power Battery. All in good condition. No issues.
SHEET METAL/BODY PANELS:
The sheet metal body panels are all in top notch rust free original condition as shown, as are the entire floor assemblys. It sports two Puch logo badges - no idea why these are on the truck but Syncro owners say that is correct. All doors open and close like new. No sag, no damage. Entire cabin is tight as a drum - like new condition.
FACTORY ID PLATES:
All original factory Vehicle identification ID plates, stickers, federalization plate, are intact and correct as shown.. The vehicle serial number is WV2ZZZ24ZKG050913.
PAPERWORK:
Free and clear Georgia title is in my name. There is a lot of paperwork from the day it was imported from Germany to California until recently.
REPAIRS/MAINTENANCE:
In the last 8873 miles (over the last 13 years) the following money was spent on the truck: New engine: $5303.88. Clutch, Flywheel, Exhaust, misc, etc, etc, etc $10,375.00. Total of $15,578 with receipts.
REVIEW:
This is not a typical "used car". It is one of the best unrestored survivors with original paint and interior available. I avoid "restored" cars - having personally experienced horror situations with them. A survivor, even with it's faults, shows you it's true condition - nothing hidden. This Syncro is a prime example of a great survivor. It is 100% Federalized with all supporting paperwork. THIS IS IMPORTANT: - It has not been on the road for about 7 years - only driven up and down our driveway. You will need to drive it slowly on your local roads to reseat the brakes, etc and possibly sort minor details out due to the long storage time.
VALUE:
There are no posted values on this truck because of it's rarity. From what I read recently there have been only a couple hundred of this model produced. Have seen a couple advertised for over $100,000 but money talks.
INSPECTION OF CAR:
It is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. I have sold over 35 autos and motorcycles through ebay over the past 26 years with a solid 100 percent buyer satisfaction feedback. I give buyers an honest description, a better product and a better deal than they might normally expect.
SHIPPING:
Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange it, but only if necessary. However the cheapest and most efficient method is for the new owner to call a transport broker in their area and have them put out bids for the job. The truck is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.
PAYMENT & BIDDING:

A $2000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. N0 Paypal for the remaining balance and the balance is due within 5 days via wire transfer or mail with a cashiers check or cash. No Paypal for the balance. Payment is to be made in advance of collecting the car. This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect it for you - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. (or haggle on the price - ask me how that will go). When the auction is over, it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions.
