Description
Well what can I say! You have seen the photos and when you inspect it, it is actually better. This is our pride and joy and probably one of the the best T3 T25 campers offered for sale in Australia.
It really is just so original and such fun to own and travel in.
Built in Germany December 1985 and first registered in April 1986 as a camper delivered by Smith’s of Mentone Melbourne to a German tourist named Werner.
Complete history and documentation with service books and a catalogue of receipts from NEW to today. We are the third owner and Jack the previous owner kept every receipt after his purchase from Werner in 1994.
Jack paid $18,700 and it had done 215,318kms. His attitude to maintenance was amazingwhich is fully supported by hundreds of receipts including a new motor installed on the 10th of June 1998 at a cost of $7,784.00.
As Jack told me a burst water hose and a faulty overheating alarm unit destroyed the previous motor. With the motor replacement a new radiator and all new hoses etc were fitted.
It ran beautifully for us on many trips until we went on one of the worst rutted and corrugated roads in NSW. On our arrival several hours later in the middle if nowhere the oil light came on but level was perfect when checked?
Left a week later and on the same awful road the oil light came on again together with a clattering noise sounding like an air-cooled VW motor. A couple of thousand dollars for a flattop tow later, it arrived at the best VW water cooled mechanic in Australia (George at Mullumbimby).
It turned out to be a clogged oil pickup caused by that awful road.
Anyhow you guessed it a completely rebuilt motor with all balanced and blue printed new parts costing a total of well over $8000.00 excluding some extra new bits and pieces I imported myself. Since the rebuild we have only amassed 5,628 KLM’s.
There is very little more you can spend other than normal maintenance items hopefully for the next 200,000 kms .
The brakes are new, the tyres are as new and everything works as it should.
The front disc brakes are similar to a Porsche from the same era having double acting twin callipers which stops you on a cent. Steering is not power assisted but is light and direct and not affected by crosswinds like earlier models.
The engine is a water cooled boxer 1.9ltr fuel injected and is very powerful achieving a top speed on the flat with no head wind of over 140kph and cruises all day at 120 kph.
There is a 5 speed manual gear box and when you become accustomed to it’s remoteness, it is a pleasure to use. All the gear lever bushes and linkages etc have been replaced partly by Jack and myself.
Our Kombi has been an absolute joy to own and wherever we pull up loads of admirers gather to ask questions and can’t believe its original condition. I don’t know why it is, but it always makes people smile.
The reason we are selling is that I have had 2 operations to my left shoulder in the past 5 months and my excellent surgeon has done the best he can but advised that I no longer drive a manual for more than 30 minutes or so and to top it off my wife only drives an automatic.
I sincerely hope our best ever traveling companion will go to an enthusiastic V Dubber who will look after it as Werner, Jack and I have for the past 29 odd years.
Many more pictures available upon request.
