Vehicle History

This started out its life in 1999 as a carpet fitters van as most of these did. It covered around 140,000 miles in its original condition. It was sold onto a mechanic at this point who transformed the van both mechanically and aesthetically.

It has had a new engine from a VW Polo that is more powerful than the original 1.9 unit that this van had. This has improved performance no end, it is smooth and pulls through the gears well. This was my first T4, but other T4 fanatics have commented on the power and speed of this when compared to the original 1.9 TDI engine.

Around the same time it had a new ODO meter fitted.

The van has also benefits from, a "longer" 5th gear, which gives a higher cruising speed. It will quite happily sit at 70+ MPH. It also has the short shift modification, which makes changing gear much easier.

The van sits on 18" load rated white alloys with load rated tyres. This is crucial on these vans, many only have car rated tyres and wheels which can lead to the tyres and wheels failing. Not what you want to happen on the M5.

Externally this has chrome side and roof bars fitted, it has blacked out rear windows and barn doors.(The purple flowers on the windows are just stickers and are removable.) It also has a very nice bonnet bra, it attracts lots of attention and always gets a wave from fellow T4'ers and VeeDubbers.

This also has the private plate "T4 00 MOT", which was purchased by the previous mechanic owner. Clearly this is a very desirable plate for T4 enthusiasts and especially those in the "Car Mechanics Industry". I have been told that this might be worth around £1000 but I see no sense in removing it from the Van. I also have German Style pressed tin plates that you can use if you wish, just don't drive near any overly zealous Devon Police Vehicles.

Body

This van was built 1999, therefore there are some imperfections as you would expect. However as the pictures show, it is in much better condition than many it's age.
Internally

The inside has 5 seats in a 2/3 formation, finished in lovely red "leather look" vinyl. The front captain seats are both on swivel bases so can be turned when parked up or camping. The rear has been carpeted and finished in black and white checked flooring. The front door panels match the flooring.

Camping

The rear of the van has a wooden "sofa" that folds into a bed for camping. I built this last summer and it comfortably accomodated two people. It needs the cusions finishing if it were to be used regularly as a sofa, but as a bed it functions perfectly, once bedding has been added.

Summary

This is a classic vehicle. This one has enjoyed a long and varied life but has been cared for along the way. It has many modifications that enhance the pleasure of using this van. It has been used by my family for the last couple of years and has visited many seaside resorts and VW shows. It could quite easily be adapted into a full on camper or left in its current state and used as an everyday car. Now is the time to buy one before the prices sky rocket in the summer.

Please feel free to ask any questions and contact me to view the van before buying.
