Description
Heidi The Kombi
'Heidi The Kombi' is a much loved member of the family behind "Happy Glamper" on the Mornington Peninsula. We fell in love with her and hoped to hire her out through our glamping business whilst enjoying her as a member of the 'family' (we had always wanted a kombi!). After a year of improvements, a couple of trial hires, loads of personal enjoyment and long recent discussions we have come to realise she just won't suit our business. As much as we love her, we will need to let her go in order to move on with other things.
She can sleep four people, as she has a Queen bed and the original vinyl mattresses for sleeping in the pop-top! She has a very reliable engine that starts every time. She currently has Club registration which we will maintain until she is sold (Club registration cannot be transferred unfortunately). She has a straight body and no structural rust, just very minor surface rust due to living by the beach! The pop-top glides up and down easily.
The reserve price for the kombi is $20,060.
Prior history
She was owned by a lady in Mosman and was regularly serviced by a VW Specialists Pty Ltd. Going off the receipts she lived in Canberra before Sydney. We have receipts for the work done on her dating right back to 1995 (yep)!! Her transmission was rebuilt in June 2013.
Recent Improvements
We bought her in Sydney in June 2014, road-tripping back to the Mornington Peninsula. Upon arriving in Melbourne we booked her in for a major service with Volksworld. Apart from the usual servicing, the following major improvements have been done on Heidi in the past 12 months:
$3,982 spent in August 2014 getting both carburettors rebuilt and repairing rustRust was cut out of the driver's wheel arch, the battery tray and under the driver's feetNew panels welded into the above areas (we can send photos of repairs done upon request)Receipts will be provided with the saleNew 3.5mm hardwood door 'cards' were cut for the rear doors and wall panels, lined with 'leather texture' vinyl and installedMore vinyl available for front doors that still have solid timber 'cards'Brand new orange pop-top canvas was commissioned with drop down velcro windowsNew bamboo floorboards installedBrand new rock'n'roll back seat bought from Just Kampers in Sydney and installed. This folds down to a Queen bed.New high-density foam for rear rock'n'roll back seatCustom bench seat created with slide-out drawer for a cooker and storageInstallation of small, internal table that slides within two different tracks to allow multiple positionsCommissioning of brand new, double-sided floral curtains with leather tie-backsNew VW-embossed fibreglass hatch vent installedWe sourced a cool, vintage awning for her and fitted the tracking to instal it (see photos).
Yet to do
She has some minor rust in a few places (due to living by the beach). There's nothing structural but, as with all kombis, you'll need to keep up the anti-rust regime.Cover the front door timber 'cards' using the vinyl that will be providedInspections encouraged
It is strongly advised that you inspect Heidi The Kombi before bidding on her. Please contact us to arrange an inspection. We are also happy to provide more photos of specific areas to help with your decision - just ask!
