Description
THE GOOD: Super hard to find SE model. The special edition 240 comes with a well appointed cabin with full leather seating (not the vinyl found on the Base 240 models) and special alloy wheels.
I am the 3rd owner and have had this cult collectible classic for over 10 years, during which time this car has been totally babied and cared for to the umpteenth degree. I have given it anything it has ever needed. And like any vintage baby, I gave it quite a lot!
I have all the service records going back to the original owner. I have personally spent well over 10K keeping this classic in top shape and totally roadworthy and safe. Almost rust-free (some small areas beginning-see pics). Clean inside and out. Body is super straight. Too much to list, but I'll include the service highlights at the end.
THE BAD: Someone recently backed into the front passenger fender/foglight housing while it was parked on my street. As such, it needs a new front fender. There is no frame damage whatsoever. I have the missing bumper moulding and missing fog light cover all ready to go. I have received a quote of $780 from Western Auto Body to do the needed body work which includes blended paint. However, I think it's time to pass on the torch. Outside of the fender, this car needs nearly nothing.
This was about as pristine a 240 one might find in the Midwest. And again, the SE trim is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Local pick-up only.
THE MAINTENANCE HIGHLIGHTS:
If you are a serious buyer, you may send me an email and I can forward a PDF inventory of all of the service work I have done to it in my ten-year relationship with my Swedish beloved.
Replacements:
Ball bearings, timing belt, tensioner, sealing rings, both control arm bushings, linkage bushing, drive belts, front engine seal, camshaft seal, crankshaft seal, inter medial seals, brake pads and rotors all-around, emergency brake show, tailgate wiring harness, Bosch super plugs, Volvo ignition wires, Bosch rotor & distributor cap, filter, overdrive solenoid, complete Starla exhaust system, Michelin tires, center bearing and support, castor bushing, o2 sensor, rear shocks, A/C conversion R12, Boge front struts, alignment, starter, Bosch battery, RPM sensor, overdrive relay, lower steering knuckle, oil pipes in rack & pinion, auxiliary cooling fan, water pump, power steering belt, Bosch alternator, alternator belt set, A/C belt, in-tank fuel pump, fuel sending unit, main fuel pump, fuel filter, mass airflow sensor, rack & pinion, differential pinion seal, rear U-joint…and so on and so forth.
I have always given it regular tune-ups and oil changes. Runs like a top.
ANNOYANCES & FUTURE NEEDS:
A/C needs charge. It's been converted and has had no issues blowing cold since, however, needs juice.
Radio comes and goes at will. I have 2 stock spares, each with their own set of annoyances…so that's 3 stock Volvo dysfunctional radios.
One of the rear taillights comes and goes, not sure why.
Has slow leaks as expected for the vintage, nothing major.
Passenger black plastic door pocket cracked.
One missing passenger door lock sleeve.
RUST:
Please see pics. For a midwest car of this vintage, the rust is fairly small and fixable. There are however, 2 small holes-1 in each rocker panel and then the other typical spots…under the tailgate and a spot in one lower corner of the windshield.
Please feel free to call 773-368-5232 with any questions.
