After a decade of letting my project sit, it's time for me to declare defeat. This is a NO RESERVE auction, so it'll go to the highest bidder. There's a lot to like about this project and a fair amount of work left to do too.
Let me start with the positives:
-5-barely used Coker "NDT military style" tires. These go for about $300 apiece, and you get 5. In the photos, you can see they still have the little nubs, as they only have about 100 miles on them. That's $1,200 invested right there!
-A freshly blueprinted and balanced, original "Go-Devil" L-134. Before I punctured my gas tank, this engine only had a 100-200 miles on it from a full rebuild at a local racing mechanic and machine shop. It still has great pressure and I'm sure with an oil change and reattachment of the fuel line, it'll be singing like a sewing machine again. Another $1,200 of invested here.
-Warn Overdrive + shifter: period correct gear splitter. Not installed, but freshly machined and still in packaging from the shop. Should be able to pop right in. These go for at least $1,000 a piece.
-All of the mechanicals were good functioning condition when last used a few years ago, including the 4x4 transfer case, transmission and 4x4 lockers. The chassis still rolls easily - so it seems everything is still mechanically sound.
-6-volt: When connected to a 6v battery, the engine turns over easily. All it needs is fuel.
What needs work:
What started me down the path of failure was essentially my lack of bodywork skills, and oh boy, does a 1948 Willys have heavy gauge steel body.
-The body is rough & rusty. There's no getting around it, she needs a lot of bodywork. I started taking apart the grill, fenders, wanted to do a "body off" restoration from the ground up. Never quite finished this step.
-The frame has a crack. I wasn't able to get a photo of it, but it looks like the front part of the frame needs a little patching up. If I were guessing, I think someone once whacked a tree sump with the truck.
-Did I mention there's a lot of surface rust, dents, and the like?
