Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY:
After selling some of the highest quality and hardest to find car parts and cars on ebay for over 26 years I have retired and am selling off the last - and the best of our collection. A no reserve auction, this is an authentic factory matching numbers 1966 Austin Healey 3000 MK3 Phase 2 convertible. It will be sold on or off auction. Started collecting over 50 years ago and the main objective was to buy the best one owner, matching numbers, rust free cars for pleasure and investment. This car, along with others in our collection, is being sold due to the owners age/health. We purchased this Healey from a gentleman's estate in Dublin Georgia in 1989. It is one of the better, unmolested original, relatively rust free survivors out there. Purchased in 1989 and stored in inside warehouse storage until now. (32 years). We recently rolled it out for recommissioning to ready it for sale. The British Heritage Certificate shows that it was built 22 December, 1965. Shipped to a dealer in Miami Florida on 18 January, 1966. Equipped from the factory with wire wheels, overdrive transmission, heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen and Road Speed tyres. Chassis number HBJ8-L/34360.
We have been selling parts, cars and motorcycles on ebay for over 26 years with a solid 100 percent positive feedback. Below are a few recent examples. None of these buyers physically saw the cars they bought until they arrived at their homes:

ENGINE:
This is the original matching numbers engine. Starts immediately. Smooth, quiet, tight, excellent oil pressure and compression. It is an abnormally STRONG engine and is in top notch, strong running condition. New oil, oil filter, spark plugs, points. Engine # 29KRUH9064. When storing cars long term we fill the engine cylinders with a preservation compound the Air Force uses to preserve their piston driven aircraft when put into long term storage. In readying them for return to service we drain this compound, flush the engine and refill the crankcase with fresh oil. Never any problems with seized engines, sticking rings, etc. This is the phase 2 engine with 150 horsepower. The valve cover was removed for inside inspection. Clean as a whistle - Zero sludge. No issues.
TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH:
The gearbox is the original matching numbers 4 speed overdrive unit. Works perfectly in all gears and overdrive, syncros are excellent. No noises, no glitches. All smooth and quiet. Clutch works perfectly and smoothly. The transmission was overhauled in 1987 and a new clutch disc, clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing were installed at that time, so all of that is still in new condition. We installed a new clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and hydraulic hose.
FUEL SYSTEM:
The internal surface of the original gas tank is nice shiny unrusted steel - like new. New fuel sending unit. The original steel fuel lines and connectors from the tank to the carburetors are excellent. Original fuel pump was replaced with a new modern electric unit. Works perfectly. Carbs/chokes were removed, completely disassembled, cleaned, seals/rubber replaced and adjusted and function perfectly. New main jets were also installed.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT:
One of the finest, straightest, undamaged original engine compartments. There is no rust anywhere. New voltage regulator, very good original wiring. Nothing hacked, damaged or loose mystery wires hanging about. Generator rebuilt (has a slight whine to it). New 12 volt battery - positive ground.
BRAKES/SUSPENSION/WHEELS/TIRES:
New brake system. New master cylinder, new rebuilt caliper assemblys, new pads, new rear wheel cylinders, new brake shoes, new rubber hydraulic lines. Emergency brake lubed and adjusted - works well. Suspension is all original and intact and was rebushed in 1987. Excellent original 60 spoke wire wheels (5). Tires were all good Michelin x in 1987 but will now need replacing from dry rot in storage.
INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY:
Original interior is in useable driver condition as shown. All panels are the factory originals. The seats were redone by the previous owner (using the original factory covers) and they are useable but it was an amateur job. Original carpet was unusable so we removed everything so photos could be taken of the excellent floors, then we installed floor/carpet insulation as shown and used a generic grade of automotive carpet to put on top.(carpet kits were out of stock at the time of recommisioning - like so many other item during the Chinese virus). Good usable driver quality.
EXTERIOR TRIM:
Chrome is all original - bumpers, guards, grille, door handles, etc. All in very nice condition as shown.
DASH AREA:
Looking UNDER the dash tells a lot. The underside of this dash looks like new. Wiring, gauges, paint, etc. Everything is in excellent condition. Original gauges. Tachometer works, Speedometer works - odometer shows 21947. Oil pressure gauge works - excellent oil pressure. Fuel gauge work. Water temperature gauge works. Runs nice and cool. Heater motor works. Windshield wipers work. Manual chokes works. Generator works - was removed, cleaned, armature dressed. Generator light works. Horns work. Turn signals work. Dash lights work. Lights work. Original ignition key/switch/starter button works. Ash tray works. Not working: Radio - and probably never will.
PAINT:
The original color was Healey blue but the previous owner wanted a different color - like so many others at the time (paint was cheap then). So he had the color changed in 1987 to a darker blue as shown. As usual practice, it was painted with the old bullet proof enamel on top of the original factory color. Normally I don't like color changes but the color suits this car very well. The paint is old - looks great from 10 feet but is just old and has some chipping, peeling, etc. Good for a nice looking driver.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT:
Excellent, straight and original. Excellent fuel tank. New battery. Excellent rust free trunk lid. Spare tire needs replacing. There are some pinholes throughout the bottom of the trunk floor - nothing ugly or major but the previous owner decided instead of repairing it properly he put a large steel plate over the floor. Overkill to the extreme.
UNDERCARRIAGE/CHASSIS:
Perfect, excellent throughout. Frame and chassis/floors still retain a lot of the original factory paint. Frame is straight as a die, undamaged and rustfree as shown. Never any damage or accidents. NO RUST. Typical surface dusting only. Inner and outer rocker panels and sills and the floor assemblys are all original, no rust to be seen and in excellent solid condition.
EXHAUST:
Good original exhaust system. Stainless rear muffler was replaced new just before we got the car. Nice mellow exhaust tone - sounds exactly like a Healey should sound.
COOLING SYSTEM:
Water radiator hoses, water pump and original radiator all in very good undamaged condition. No issues.
GLASS:
Side windows are the originals and in good condition. They roll up and down solidly and easily except the passenger side. It rolls up and down but has come unattached partially in the window groove - still usable but unstable. The original windshield is very good. Minor wiper mark on the passenger side.
TOP/FRAME:
The top frame assembly is original and in perfect visual and mechanical condition. The top is a brand new one put on in 1987 but has had no use since it was installed so it is still in very nice condition.
SHEET METAL/BODY PANELS:
The sheet metal body panels are all in top notch rust free original condition with the following exceptions. The dog legs on the drivers and passengers side have the typical Healey rust through on the bottoms. They were bondoed over when the car was painted in 1987 and the bondo is slowly coming through again. They need rebondoing or the partial panel replacements - or leave them as is - up to you. Overall, all of the sheet metal is in way above average condition for being 55 years old. Very solid.
FACTORY ID PLATES:
All original Vehicle identification ID plates are intact and correct. The vehicle serial number is HBJ8L34360. Engine number is 29K9064. A matching numbers car, the numbers correspond correctly and match the Heritage factory certificate.
PAPERWORK:
British Motor Heritage certificate and all repair/parts receipts included. Has a free and clear Georgia title.
REVIEW:
An excellent example of a Healey 3000 that can be driven exactly as it stands or improved upon while you drive it. Up to you - leave it alone and enjoy it. I do not like "restored" cars - having personally experienced horror situations with them. A survivor, even with it's faults, shows you it's true condition with nothing being hidden. This Healey is a prime example of a good survivor. It is a fine color combination and a solid car that can be driven as it stands or improved upon while driving. (Leave it alone - just drive and enjoy it). THIS IS IMPORTANT: - It has not been on the road for many years - only driven up and down our driveway. You will need to drive it slowly on your local roads to reseat the brakes, etc, etc and possibly sort minor details out due to the long storage time.
VALUE:
As of this date Hagerty Classic Car values lists the 1966 Austin Healey 3000 Ph 2 convertible at: #1. $116,000. #2. $76,900. #3. $47,200. #4. $31,000. With the average condition being at $47,200. This car would fall at the very least in the #3 area.
INSPECTION OF CAR:
It is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. I have sold roughly 30 autos and motorcycles through ebay over the past 26 years with a solid 100 percent buyer satisfaction feedback. I give buyers an honest description, a better product and a better deal than they might expect.
SHIPPING:
Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange it, but only if necessary. However the cheapest and most efficient method is for the new owner to call a transport broker in their area and have them put out bids for the job. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading.
PAYMENT & BIDDING:
Contact me prior to bidding if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid will be cancelled and you will be barred from any of my future auctions. A $2000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. N0 Paypal for the remaining balance and the balance is due within 5 days via wire transfer or express mail with a cashiers check or cash. No Paypal for the balance. Payment is to be made in advance of collecting the car. This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect it for you - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. (or haggle on the price - ask me how that will go). When the auction is over, it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions.
