Description
The tri carb model was only made in 1962 with a total production of 5096 (BT7-4 seater). During the production run Healey introduced the center shift transmission resulting in only 2130 of the side shift transmissions produced which people often associate with the original Healeys roadsters. VIN15653 is the side shift transmission.
Car was originally purchased in 1996 and would best describe it as driver condition. After enjoying it for a year I decided to do a complete restoration of the car which was completed by a team of british car specialists and in 2000 the car was finished. It has been extremely well maintained and serviced at the shop that did the restoration yet has only been driven approximately 8,000 miles during the past 15 years so it still presents very well. Here are some highlights of the restoration:
Mechanicals: Completely rebuilt motor including decking the block, gapless rings, and hardened valve seats. Transmission was completey gone through replacing all necessary parts including cluster gear and syncros. Rearend was rebuilt replacing the pumkin/gears and seals. New steering box and related items. All mechanical components were fully rebuilt to original specification.
Note: When I purchased the car the motor did not have a serial # attached to the block so I cannot verify that this is the original motor. I can say that when it was pulled out along with the transmission during the restoration they both seemed equally worn which lead me to believe it is the correct matching block, but again, cannot confirm and do not want to misrepresent.
Body and Frame: Removed body and stripped to bare metal with a few patch panels being used (ie lower front fender), otherwise, original sheetmetal was retained. Removed the bumpers (still have) and filled the remaining holes in rear shroud with aluminum to match.
Note: The car was originally Healey Blue but I decided to go with Jaguar Silver Grey (XKE color). While not an original Healey offering, it certainly looks sharp and people often assume that it is an original color.
Interior: Full Interior Kit (Black/White piping) was supplied by Healey Surgeons and professionally installed by restoration shop. The trunk has the armacord and spare tire but does need to have a few items completed (tie down strap, etc which are included).
Wheels/Tires: Factory correct painted 48 spoke wheels and 65x15 tires.
Weather Equipment: Being a roadster, I drive the car sans top and prefer the tonneau cover. However, I do have the original soft top, bows and side curtains that go with the car.
Extras: Fog/driving lights (OEM) that still retain their original covers, Aston gas cap, alloy valve cover (have original), period correct seat belts, and leather steering wheel wrap.
I have a binder full of receipts and restoration pics that will go to the new owner.
Overall, this is a well sorted and maintained Healey that represents the last of the true roadsters. It is a car that loves to be driven and will reward one with lots of enjoyment. I have owned this "Handsome Brute" for nearly 20 years and while it has provided much fun, it is time to pass along to the next care taker.
Payment Terms: Preferred method is Bank Wire to Wire Transfer, Cash (in person) or Certified Check (vehicle will be released when check clears). The successful high bidder will submit a $2,000 non refundable deposit within 24 hours of the close of auction to secure vehicle. Buyer agrees to pay remaining balance due within 7 business days of the close of auction. All financial transactions must be completed before delivery/pickup of the vehicle. Buyer is responsible for pickup of vehicle. I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime as it is advertised elsewehere.
