Description
The BJ7, or Austin Healey 3000 Mark II was first introduced in August of 1962. This represented a major change for the car. For the first time, it now had roll-up windows. Along with that, came a wrap-around windscreen and side vent windows. It also had an easy-to-operate, fold-down convertible top. It was described in its day as being comfortable, as sports cars go. Only 6,113 BJ7s were ever built.
We are selling this car on behalf of one of our customers, who has maintained it nicely since the early 2000's and has only driven it about 3,000 miles since. It has a rust-free body and frame, and a totally rebuilt engine and transmission. We feel that this car could be used regularly and driven anywhere with confidence. Whether driving on the interstate, cruising down Main Street, or pulling up at the local "Cars and Coffee," you can show your pride in this stunning example of one of Britain's finest.
As with many beloved cars of our youth, this one also comes with a collection of original manuals, articles, books, letters and the like. One truly gets a sense of the car's history. We have correspondence dating back to 1979 and believe the car has had four owners. It appears that a restoration was performed around 1990. At that time, we believe, it received all four fiberglass fenders in addition to a fiberglass front cowl. This work was carried out at a time when steel fenders may have been harder to come by. The workmanship in both the panels themselves and the fitment of them was excellent; one has to look hard to tell. The panel-to-panel fit is also of very high quality. When examining the car from underneath, there is no evidence of rust, past or present. We could not find any evidence of it ever being in an accident or having any structural damage.
We believe the interior had been restored just prior to the current owner purchasing the car. He had some paint work done in 2008 which finishes it off beautifully.
