Description
I imported this car from the States about six years ago and had it complianced and registered for use here in Queensland. However I have rarely used it and now I'm following my wife's plans for decluttering my life by cutting back on my various cars, motorcycles and kayaks.
The 'Frite' was professionally built in the 1970s for SCCA racing with a competition prepared Ford 302 Windsor V8 drive train - engine casting number C90E-6015-C from a 1970's Ford Torino.
The build work on the vehicle included :
-Ford 8-inch narrowed rear end with big Ford drum brakes.
-Big radiator with manual control 15" electric pusher fan.
-Ford C4 three-speed Automatic with B&M Hydro conversion.
-Auxiliary transmission radiator/cooler.
-High-output alternator (new/rebuilt by previous owner).
-Edelbrock Performer intake manifold with big (600cfm) manual-choke Holly 4-barrel.
-K&N Air Filter. (The "289 Hi-Po" sticker is just a decoration.)
-Hi-performance cam - "lopey" at idle, instant go-power.-Custom front flip-up fibreglass bonnet/guards, fits perfectly.-Fresh rebuilt starter motor (by previous owner).
-Manual adjustable front-rear brake bias valve.
-Sprite quarter-elliptic rear leaf springs with extra leaves (16 leaf - very stiff).
-Drilled front disk rotors with freshly rebuilt calipers, pads, and new braided steel lines/hoses.
-Front suspension and steering rebuilt by previous owner, including:
-New spring pans
-New heavy-duty coil springs
-New heavy-duty anti-sway bar
-All new wheel bearings
-New offset negative camber bushings
-All new poly suspension bushings
-Rebuilt FAST steering rack (1.25 turns center-to-lock)
-Rebuilt lever-action shock.
Now as for the present condition of the vehicle :
-The motor uses no oil.
-The transmission leaks a little from the rear seal. I've only needed to add transmission fluid once.
-Steel body is all in good shape. Solid with no rust.
-Custom front flip-up fiberglass hood/fenders, fits perfectly.
-Starts fine and runs strong, though running a little rich at the moment.
-Transmission and shifting linkage operate perfectly.
-New battery, October 2021.
-Custom center-zip tonneau cover, a little worn now.
-Tyres fitted -used Sumitomo Radials 215/50 R13 on Ford rear wheels
-new Kenda Radials 185/60 R13 on matching Sprite front wheels
This is an unusual, one-off, superbly engineered car matching British open car style and 70's American muscle in a light weight body in the character of the AC Cobra. A little bit of madness, the ultimate FUN car! It's not a luxury sports car, it is not perfect, but it is a solid car, low to the ground with character and a power to weight ratio guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
Please note though . squeezing a V8 into an already small vehicle doesn't leave a lot of spare space (hence the automatic option) so this car is not suitable for anyone over 6 Foot (180cm) or 100 kgs!
The 'Frite' is located in East Brisbane and I'm happy to make it available for inspection anytime.Preferred sale: cash on pickup.
