Description
This 1966 Sunbeam Tiger MkI is listed on the Norman Tiger Registry and includes a Sunbeam Tiger Owner’s Association Certificate of Authenticity. The car is powered by a 289ci Ford V8 with mildly increased output thanks to an Edelbrock intake, Lunati cam, 9.5:1 compression, and more detailed below. Fast on the road with smooth shifts through the original Ford 4-speed toploader gearbox with original Tiger linkage, adding that an aftermarket exhaust and Koni shocks make for a well-rounded driving experience.
Resprayed at the time of restoration, paint color is factory correct code 86 green and is in good condition with only minor stone chips scattered around the nose and wheel openings. All chrome, stainless, seals and gaskets were restored at the same time, including on vent windows, door handles and bumpers.
The car still wears proper 260 badges and all factory spot welds including those in rocker panels and wheel arches remain visible.
Original 13″ wheels have been replaced with staggered 15″ Panasports, 6″ wide in front and 7″ in the rear. Newer ZR-rated BFgoodrich T/A tires measure 195/50 in front and 205/50 in back. The original spare and bias ply tire reside in the trunk alongside the factory jack as well as a more practical, modern scissor type unit. See the excellent gallery below for several annotated photos highlighting Tiger-specific build features.
The crank was re-ground and the car features a high volume Melling oil pump, electronic distributor, Lunati Bracket Master II cam, Lunati lifters, springs, retainers, locks and reconditioned, mildly ported heads. A multi-angle valve job was also performed, and fueling is via a Holley 600 CFM carb and Edelbrock dual-plane intake manifold.
Long-tube headers feed slightly-larger-than-stock diameter pipes that retain factory routing and mounts. Power is fed through a correct 4-speed toploader transmission, and the original 2.88 differential was replaced with Power Lock 3.07 unit. All four coil springs were replaced at the time of restoration, and work in combo with adjustable Konis and 1″ sway bars and traction bars in back.
