Description
I have had this car since 1970 I bought this from my friend Mike who worked for British Leyland, and he returned from the UK. When I was a lot younger I drove around with this car. It was the most fun car I've ever had. It drove well, always started and never had a problem. 1962 was the first year the surrey was made. The Surrey has a removeable hardtop (as did the Targa 5 years later) and a glass rear window still in place.. There were only 75 made that year. I have seen some surreys for sale but not a 1962 as these are quite rare. I have turned many Triumph owners heads when I drove this car Most people and some dealers have never heard of a Surrey at that time. But because of the internet, people now know. As I have said, this is a pretty rare car as only 75 were made that first year. The body overall is in pretty good shape as far as the metal work goes.. There is some rust on the left rear panel. The floor pans need to be replaced. These can be bought on Ebay for about 150.00 for both sides. The trunk has a dent (not bad). and of course the rocker panels under the doors are rusted( most are) I suggest replacement with fiberglass ones. I have many parts for this car which include new tail light lens, front bumper, gauges, door handles, running light lens etc. I recently removed the gas tank and cleaned it out and made sure the sending unit worked before I installed it again. All lights work. Before I stored this car I had a valve job done. Did not need one but did it anyway. This is a positive ground electrical system, Radio is also and works fine. Fuse box was updated to a newer type. The top is aluminum, The rear glass frame is also aluminum. Later ones made after 1963 were steel and were prone to rust. All glass is good with no cracks or chips,.The commission # is only CT 4336 which is quite low. (beware of very low commission numbers as you can buy blank tags on ebay and stamp your own number, but they do not match the sequence and year) The seats were replaced by Mike with higher backs which were safer and more comfortable. The engine starts and runs very well. I can't drive it yet because I am replacing the clutch slave cylinder with a new one. The clutch and brake master cylinders are new. The gauge cluster has a stickon prism tape(red, white, blue) which can be peeled off and beneath is the original silver metal design. This is a hard to find panel and only came with the 1962 I believe. This is a great project car which, given some TLC will give a good return. (several years ago I saw a 1962 Surrey, in great shape, for sale in Amsterdam (?) he was offered 65K he turned it down. It hurts me to sell this car, but I'm getting too old for it and I'd like to see someone enjoy this fun, rare car as much I did. I am not asking a lot of money for this because it does need some work. Car is being sold as is. I can tell you much more about this car if you like. Email me and I will give you my cell number or I can call you.
