Description
At auction is a 1974 Triumph TR-6 with a Rover 3.5L V/8 engine conversion done to very high standards. A total, frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration was completed in 2007 and the car has approximately 4,000 total miles on it since. She is in excellent condition and looks absolutely fabulous, inside and out.
This Triumph TR-6 was restored by a previous owner and underwent a frame-off, 6 year restoration completed in 2007, at great expense. My reserve is set at less than half the cost of this restoration.
This is a very fast car. The aluminum Rover 3.5L V/8 engine weighs less than the original Triumph 2.5L six, and has more than twice the horsepower. And, the drivetrain, suspension and braking systems were fabricated to handle the extra power. The conversion was done correctly, to very high standards.
This car is in excellent condition. I am a mature driver (age 61) and have treated it respectfully. No racing, ragging, or abuse and no signs thereof.
A 3.5L aluminum Rover V/8 engine conversion was utilized with a Rover 5-speed transmission and Rover differential (3.45:1 ratio). All drivetrain components were completely restored to new condition. The workmanship is exceptional. The painting included a bare-metal respray.
In March, 2014, I had the interior entirely replaced by local British car restoration professionals (Gassman Automotive Products, Inc. - Google it) who installed a new, OEM correct Triumph TR-6 interior (I have the receipt with full description of all work done). This included all new carpeting with custom-made vinyl edging trim; new OEM wood dash; custom-made speaker panels; new seat foams; new seat covers; new seat webbing; new headrests; new radio support bracket; new door cards and panels; new door top panels; new sunvisors; new dash (crash) pads and lower dash trim, and more. It looks better than new and it is all correct for this car.
In April, 2014, the suspension was inspected by professionals and an alignment and tire balancing was done. The suspension is in excellent condition and functions perfectly. I have the receipt.
The engine has been tuned and inspected by professionals also. It runs perfectly. I have the receipts.
The convertible top is in excellent, like-new condition and has a zip-out rear plastic window. The heater works perfectly (restored OEM Smiths unit).
There is no rust on this car. The undercarriage, wheel wells, etc., are clean.
Modifications include:
> Rover 3.5L aluminum V/8 engine, 10.5:1 compression ratio. This is the most desirable Rover 3.5L engine and runs perfectly and efficiently on premium pump gasoline. The drivetrain: engine, transmission and differential were totally rebuilt and have been driven approximately 4,000 miles since the resto was completed in 2007. The engine stays cool on hot summer days with a thermostatically-controlled electric fan. The engine burns zero oil and is well-tuned and ready to go;
> Custom exhaust headers and custom dual exhaust system. It sounds fabulous, like a powerful V/8 should;
> Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake manifold;
> Rover 5 speed transmission;
> Rover differential with 3:45:1 final drive ratio;
> Electrical system completely rewired with all new electrical wiring components and peripherals;
> Reinforced, gusseted frame and multiple modifications to the suspension;
> Gas-adjustable KYB shocks on all 4 corners;
> Fully detailed engine bay, clean and shiny;
> Fully carpeted trunk with spare tire/rim;
> 4-wheel disc brakes;
> Panasport alloy wheels with knockoff spinners, in excellent condition;
> Brand-new, correct OEM TR-6 interior, professionally installed by British car restoration experts (Gassman Automotive Products, Inc.). I have the receipt with details of all work performed - it was very expensive!);
> The tachometer is a Stewart Warner, custom modified by professionals to fit in the original TR-6 dash hole and painted to appear like the original Smith's tach. All gauges and all electrical components work perfectly;
> Custom-made speaker panels hidden neatly behind the dash/transmission tunnel. There is a AM/FM/CD head unit professionally installed in the dash support, in the correct location.
This beautiful car has the appearance of a stock TR-6 (without bumpers): the only giveaway are the dual exhausts and the powerful roar of the sweet-sounding Rover V/8 engine. It sounds better than a Corvette!
I have driven her about 1,000 miles and I know of no mechanical defects. The car has been inspected and maintained by professionals. I have receipts for all work performed. This Triumph is in excellent condition and ready to drive anywhere. It looks like a show car.
Please feel free to contact me with questions, I'll be glad to assist you.I have a 100% rating so you may bid with confidence.
FYI, I am Vice President of a regional British Car Club and a life-long British car enthusiast. This is the finest example of a TR-6 V/8 conversion I've seen, anywhere. It was built correctly by professionals. Further, its an ALL-BRITISH conversion, using all British drivetrain components with the Rover engine, transmission and differential. No Ford or Chevy parts here! This will bring lasting value to your purchase. It is unique, and beautiful.
Thank you, and good luck bidding.
